Howdy. I'm new to the board and buicks in general. Just aquired a 68 skylark ragtop with a 71 350 in it. The previous owner installed a ta performance intake and Carter 9637 sa carb. After reading alot of info on this board I see that the 9637 may not be the right setup for this motor. Any suggestions on what carb I should look at replacing this one with ?
    Thanks in advance Dave S.

Get rid of the 350 and go 400

HUH?? Taylor, you don't even know what he's using the car for! The 350 is a strong reliable engine. No, it's not going to run a 9sec quarter, but this is a convertible. I doubt Dave is making a race car out of it.

Dave, I have a 71/72 350-4 in my 68. It had the same carb on it that you have, when I bought it a few years ago. It ran "OK", but I wanted to get rid of the adaptor that was needed to mount it to the stock 4bbl intake, so I bought a nice clean 70 455 Qjet carb and sold off the adapter and Carter. Runs great, and has much better throttle response than the Carter gave me. And better gas mileage too, when I manage to keep my foot out of it. My 350 is a mild build, and runs mid-15 quarters.

Your Buick would have had a 4bbl Qjet on it from the factory if it's a Skylark Custom, so I'd suggest looking into going that route. Your TA intake should be set up to accept the spreadbore Qjet carb. Check to make sure, I don't know if TA made them in square-bore only at some point.

Appreciate the help. You're right. No race car here. Just wanna make a daily driver. The engine has been rebuilt but I'm not sure what is really inside of it.
Should be a fun project. Got a trailer full of parts with it and had no idea how collectable these things are becoming
