How far foward does the carpet go? I want to make sure the heel pad is in the correct position before I start cutting holes. Also, I assume because the front carpet has the finished edge it overlaps on top of the rear carpet but could someone confirm this.

Looks like you have it in the right place. Rear carpet section goes under front carpet section. Usually you can place the front carpet on the trans tunnel and it will sit right with the carpet just under the front heater ducts. Your carpet should have been pre-cut 90 degrees where it extends next to the kick panel over the door sill.

I was wondering if that was some sort of reference point. I installed extreamliner heat shield which is kinda thick, when I first installed the carpet it was way off so I removed the jute (?) padding and it seems to be better.
    Thanks

Just make sure you do not have to much padding under the gas pedal or it will hinder performance keeping you from getting full opening on carb.

Good point. Never thought to check that. Maybe I went a little overboard with the padding but the floor seems very hot with just the regular Dynamat sound deadener. Car is an inch lower than stock and I have a crazy driveway so I tried to get the exhaust as high as possible. Im sure that combned with the shorty headers is whats making it hot. That extreamliner really works.
