Joe I hate to tell you I TOLD YOU SO.... but I will... it was Satan in a box. It ate my flywheel ! stick with the old fashion centerforce dual friction 11" not the new version 12 " either it sucks too. Sorry to hear about the other problems, really is a neat car.
From the responses above, it looks like I may be winning the carnage race. Pulled the motor out and found the crank was broke clean, 2 pieces! I guess 102,000 miles is all a steel chevy crank is good for. The motor still ran with normal oil pressure. The lash cap had nothing to do with it.
And to think that my lazy ass didn't race because the radiator had a lawn sprayer mounted to it....... uzzled:
Broken steel crank? Sounds like pre-ignition to me. Better check the air/fuel ratio. What did the pistons look like?
Funny you mention that Jeff, I remember one of the quicker Vette's was "pinging"(detonating) during the launch through the 60' timers. I think it was a white Vette.o No:
The other white vette is the fast one, Larry kirkum's 69 427/435 auto that runs in the 11's.did the white vette do a big time burnout? That's larrys car? It looks like mine had a crack, I have not taken the heads off yet, the air fuel ratio has always been 12.5 at the leanest. I have found a NOS steel crank from the nephew of the moldex owner.
