Need a little more info.....what year, engine, trans and carb type. I can guess that it's not a GS, and the yellow wire is the power feed for your kickdown/s-p switch. You need to use the stock switch if possible, the yellow wire attaches to the single terminal on the switch, and there should be a 2-terminal connector with a black wire and a white wire. The black wire is your s-p and the white is your kickdown. If you don't have a stock switch or have an aftermarket carb, you will need to let us know what kind of carb it is so we can help.

    carb help

It's a 322 buick nailhead W/dynaflow trans.I replaced the old stomberg 2bbl with a new edelbrock 4bbl and it only has a terminal for a red and black wire.

Red wire goes to switched power source, black gets grounded to the carb - loosen one of the screws on the carb body and attach it to that.

I,ve done that, but the rar will not start.I belive the yellow wire has something to do with my gas peddel start,it was hooked into the old carb,it it also attached to the coil.

Iam unable to use the old switch because it is part of the old carb.

Not having a lot of information to go on, but
    1. The car started by the gas pedal before?
2 Is the yellow wire from the car?
3 Are the black and red wires from the electric choke?
4 Is there a switch on the old carb, and is there now a switch to replace that one?

Sounds like you want a new switch , pushbutton type, for starting the car.

Maybe a switch you can activate from inside the car...

It would be good to know what the yellow wire originally went to on the original carb, and if that connection can be recreated or retrofitted on the new Edelbrock.

The car did start from the gas peddle before this, the yellow wire i believeis hooked tothe ignition switch in the dash because it comes out of the fire wall. The black is ground and the red goes into the electric choke.I'm looking at my manual and if i read this right the yellow hooks to the accelerator vacuum switch (or the starter switch) so if i read this right could i possibly just install a new starter switch with this yellow wire going to one side and the red going ito the other then the red going on to the auto choke and if so what type of switch would i use, hope any one can help.....thanks

    starter switch.

You should have had two wires going to the switch on the carburetor. One is a power source, the other gets power when the gas pedal is fully depressed to send power to your starter.
The original carburetor should have had a heated tube from the passenger side exhaust manifold to the choke assembly. I think you hooked the first wire up wrong also.

I don't have my shop manual in front of me, but I am very sure you need to find a different power source for your choke and pull those two wires back into the cabin and wire in a push button style switch between the two.

You could double check before moving the wires by turning the ignition on and touching the two wires together, the engine should turn over-just be careful!!

I put in a push button switch in my '55 for the same reason (different carbs) about 10 years ago and that is all I did-pull wires into cabin and install a switch button.

    Hope this helps.:TU:

Hey,how about this!the car did not come with a radio or the inside wireing for a radio but it does have the under the hood parts for one, could i wire the choke up to that?

    choke hook up[

You should be able to wire the choke into any switched power source, meaning it comes on and goes off with the ignition switch.
The wiring for the radio should work just check to make sure the power is off with the key off or the choke will never close. If the fuse is missing from the fuse block, you should be able to use a low amp fuse (5 or 10) as the choke does not draw much juice.

hos it going, i hooked everthing up including the push button switch and it all worked great but aafter a while i went out to restart the car and it wont start not even crank,i unhooked the wires to the new switch and touched the original wires together and it still wont crank,i get nothing............what happened?

Did you hook the choke up to constant power? (meaning, the choke is sucking juice out of the battery even when the key is off)

You say it won't even crank - signifying that there is no power going to the starter? Which either means dead battery or bad connection somwhere.

Gotta make sure the choke is hooked up to a switched source.
