Should I add a carb spacer to my 455. I have about 5,000 on a rebuild. bored .40, TA cam 290-94H, 770 cfm Holley Street Avenger. I don't know what I'm running for horses but I was wondering if I would pick up anymore. Some advise here please. Thanks guys.

Try it, you might get a little hp and lose a little torque. Experiment with different hights.

If you're running the stock intake, you'll essentially be making it a single plane instead of a dual plane. You'd pick up some top end HP, but lose bottom end torque, which is what you want on the street.

I am running an Edelbrock Performer intake right now.

The Edelbrock is still a dual plane intake like the factory unit. You could just cut down the center divider about 1/2" and accomplish the same thing. You'll get a little more on the top end, but give up a little bottom end torque.

Thanks for the input guys. Perhaps you could recomend an intake that would provide me more power other than the Edelbrock. I was thinking of having a stage 1 job done on my heads, is there an intake I could pickup now and put on that I could continue to use until I get the heads done or should I let things alone until I get the heads done. Thanks again guys.

put the money into the heads, more bang for the buck, it has been said, build a matched setup car around a good set of heads, intake, and a carb spacer is down the list . there are 11 sec cars that i know are running the stock intake.

I run an SP1 on the street. I think you can pick one up used in the $250 range. But heads are definitely where you want to put your money and make that engine breathe. Then have a cam to match it. Ask Jim Weise. He's always happy to help out a board member with good free advice.
