    Hi , I do have a Rochester 2bbl on my 350-2 , 1968 350ci .

The problem is that some gas leaks  that seems to came from the fuel filter line . I thighten the 2 nuts a little and it still does leaks :Do No:

What could be the problem , or better first ... what are the things to look for , possible problem etc ..

How much could it cost to have it rebuilt , if needed ?

    Thank you

Where exactly is it leaking? Around the large 1" nut that holds the paper filter? Or around the smaller 5/8" nut that retains the fuel line to the bigger nut? Or is it possible that it's leaking around the gasket between the top and bottom halves of the carb body? The parting line for this gasket is just below the fuel-line nut and can appear as a leak there.

If it's the 1" nut, be careful tightening it - the nut is steel, but the threads of the carb are a zinc casting and very fragile. There is a thin gasket that goes between the large nut and the carb. If missing, that may be the cause of your leak.

Second, make sure the flare on the end of the fuel line is not damaged or nicked, and that the fuel line feeds straight into the carb - not angled, and not pulling to one side or another.

As for rebuilding the carb, you can follow my instructions here:

The gasket is cracked ... cannot find any replacement in local parts store , I was told to check at GM dealer , unfortunatly I gotta wait 'till tuesday (labor day week-end) .

Does a gasket sealer can do a good job for a couple of days , or I better not messing around with that stuff ??

Thank you for your time !

The fuel-nut gasket usually comes as part of a "carb rebuild" kit (really, just a bunch of gaskets). Even so, you're probably stuck for the weekend - most parts stores don't carry carb-kits in stock, so you'd need to order it anyway and wait a day (or so). You might just order a kit anyway, use the fuel-nut gasket for now and save the rest of the pieces for later. It might be faster/easier than trying to get the GM parts guy to find the part you need (they haven't sold a carbureted car since the early 90s).

When you order a carb-kit, year/make/model is not enough information. They'll need the carburetor number itself. For your car the number is 7028140 (unless you have a manual transmission, then its 7028141).

As for Teflon tape - it might work, but it's a band-aid fix at best. Fuel leaks atop a hot engine are not to be trifled with. It's hard to admit that your car caught fire because you were too cheap or impatient :).

Thanks for the info , I found this very number on my carb :TU:

I was lucky enough to find a fuel-nut gasket at a speed shop this morning ! Freebies  I start with only the new gasket in but I had to put the old one too (the new one on carb side) because it was still leaking at first try ... maybe I didn't thight the bolt enough (don't wanna take any chance) but on 2nd try with 2 gasket there was no leak at all !
