My '60 LeSabre won't turn over and I don't know why. I had just finished finding a power drain and took out that fuse(dome light) while I was going through the process of finding the power drain my screw driver fell and crossed between a box(relay??) and the body(completing the circut), could this have anything to do with it? Everything works exept for the starer. It has the original pushbutton starter but the button does work.

What does this "box" do? Is it the voltage regulator? Maybe you blew a fuse. Maybe you melted a wire. Did you let the smoke out?:Do No:

(they build the smoke in at the factory, that way when you do something really bad you can tell)

It's on the fender, don't exactly know what it is. I think the starter relay is the problem though

I'm not familiar with your car. Are you talking about the driver's side fender? Perhaps you shorted out the horn or starter relay. Can you post a picture of it?:bglasses:

There is a cut wire on the right of this (it's yellow). What does it go to?

once again, cut wires. one is white the other is dark green (I don't know if it has a stripe or not) Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the starter relay right?

Without a schematic and lacking any experience whatsoever with your model, I must honestly say that I can't answer your questions.

It appears to me that the cut yellow wire must have went to an add on b/c the blue crimped on connector would indicate that to me.

One thing I did notice is the fat red wire with the black fuse holder behind your battery. Check the fuse in that, you may have blown it and I don't know what that goes to.

The positive battery cable attaches to a junction block that may have the horn relay attached to it. Is that what you shorted out?:bglasses:

The fat red wire is a amp power wire. I think that(the horn relay) must have been what shorted out. Any idea what it is now?

If you shorted between the stud with the attached battery cable to ground, I doubt that you hurt anything. It sounbds to me like you aren't getting power to your starter solenoid (did they have one of those on a '60?). The cars I'm familiar with, this would be a heavy purple wire. You could check this with a test lite on the starter and another person in the car turning the ignition switch to start.

This is one of those things I know I could fix if I was there. I don't want to give the wrong information to this guy. Could somebody post a schematic for this car? :Do No:

Does the starter solenoid look like any of the ones in the pics

I really don't know, but if I had to guess, the one right next to your battery with the cut yellow wire on it could be a starter relay.

Usually the starter solenoid has the relay built into it and mounts on the starter. I just don't know what a '60 starter looks like.:bglasses:

Looking at your pic, I know for sure you toasted it. Look at your pics. You see the big red positive lead from the battery? Follow that to where it stops, and you'll see that it attaches to the very relay that sparked. It's toast. Trust me.

I don't know if you can get a replacement from a local parts house or not. I can call around and see if I can get some place like Napa or AutoZone to get me one if you can't get one locally. And no, you can't have mine.
