Hello. New to this forum. I recently got a 68 skylark. It has a 350 with 4 barrel. I did oil change car rotor points and belts. New wires. At some point since i got car a few months ago. The car just wouldnt shut off a few weeks ago. Whe. I turn key off. I can remove the whole ignition module. Unplug it from harness car continues to run. Not dieseling but actually running. It is wierd because the stereo will go on off.. But car keeps running. Any advise will be appreciated I replaced the barrel of ignition. Still nothing... Blinkers were working those stopped too. Thanks
Welcome Frank! The ignition lock is still located in the dash, right? Something is wrong in the wiring, here's a scan from the 1968 Chassis Service Manual:
Diagram very helpful. When i got the car it turned off fine. I noticed a crack on the coil one day. I replaced cap, rotor, points, coil... Somewhere around then it stopped shutting off.
I think you have a problem where the resistance wire is no longer grounded when you turn the key to the LOCK position. Check the connections you worked on when replacing the ignition coil:
@Nailhead in a 1967 man thank you brotha! I got it. It was the condensor wire hooked to positive side of my new coil. And a loose starter connector. Thank u for the diagrams Got me familiar with my wiring and resistor wire etc. Thank you!! I appreciate it
OK Frank, good to hear that the problem is fixed! Now: do the right thing and introduce yourself and the Skylark (we all love pics!) in the "Wet behind the ears??" section of the board Click here: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?forums/wet-behind-the-ears.72/
