are we losing our perspective here ? is winning the only thing & everything (vince lombardi) ? can we not attend carshows for the fun and comradarie ? when we become so competitive do we not lose focus ?
yes i know several owners of restored classic cars and they are strictly in it for the money . when they lose , they pout . if that is how they get their jollies , then so be it . i love to show my car to all people , especially the younger folk . i want them to appreciate all the work i have undertaken to restore my car . i enjoy the comments . i hope that they may one day join in this hobby . that , gentlemen is where the fun is ; it is not all about money !

I haven't shown my car at a serious event since I was 16 and had my 13,000 mile '66 4-speed win honorable mention because "they didn't have a judging sheet" for Gran Sports. They should have given my money back and asked me to show it in an exhibition class rather than teach a young kid such a nasty lesson. Now I show my cars on the streets, and in the parking lot at events. I've had event staff drop their jaws as I tell them I'm not pulling into the show field, then turn into the parking lot. I've seen small crowds around my car outside the ropes, while cars in the show get little attention. I learned it young and well, and haven't felt cheated since. Dan:moonu:

Amen to Scott and Dan! Cruise nights are the way to go, where car people can share a common interest as well as allowing the public to see some great cars for free. The cars are the attraction at shows, therefore the show promoters should pay the participants for drawing the crowds! I drive my trophy, I don't display one on a shelf.

That really sucks, Dan. When you drive a Buick, you have to be really choosey what shows you attend.........the discrimination factor is out there and it's ugly. What's even worse is cruise nights that give awards, (out here some do.......usually for the hot rod guys) they have no standards and the only requirement to get awarded is to be popular with the crowd.

Honorable mention.:moonu: The only judging sheets I've seen so far are universal:spank:

    gotbuick What, me worry?

    gerry,

I agree, it is about fun and the people who share your enthusiasm. My gripe, and the reason I started this thread, was to vent on an issue of a Judge touching and climbing into a car during a show.

It's ironic that the very sign provided in the goodie bag for entering ("DO NOT TOUCH") is meaningless to the aforementioned car show Nazi!

I have been attending car shows for years, started with my 77 V6 powered 70 GS stage 1. then with my 70 GTO ,S-10 blazer, 90 Aerostar. I have gone to judged shows. have gotten some class winner because I was the only one in the class.

Some of the most fun I have been to is non judged shows, cruise nights etc.
I went to a "All Ford show" at milan one time. it sucked, saturday there was only 10 cars and maybe 18-20 on sunday. I had more fun at the Mt. Clemins cruise night on sat night, and It was free.

In all the shows I have been involved with, they tell you if you don't have your trunk, doors, hood etc open it wil not be judged. Judges will not open vehicles.

I once was asked to help Judge a High Performance Ford show once because I know the cars, but only one of the entrants. They specifically told me not to worry about numbers, but overall quality and cleanliness. I had a blast, and heard no complaints. The best part was that I had pulled in to show my friend my newly acquired Stage convertible, and good naturedly offered to run the whole line of 428 Shelby's and Torinos. I had no takers, but some great bench racing. Dan:beer
