Random Thoughts: 1. Ethanol (as in E-85, which I love) does burn cleaner, and because it contains oxygen, needs less air in the mix, so will run lean and hotter without re-jetting. This will probably raise NOX. 2. Who is behind these new e-check laws? It should be a matter of record who contributed what to your senator's campaign. Auto dealers association?
I think its pretty rediclous too. seriously how many cars this age are out there. and look at the milage sport utes get. comon... I wish we had rolling years on the emissions. they did say "you can put historic plates on it" max driving milage is about 3000 miles a year. haha.. im neary 4 times that. wish i could get hobbiest plates... emmisions couple bottles of heet and turn up idle some 800 to 900 i seen one thread say turn timing down which is weird for me as i got hei and is set around 16 at idle and passes at like 200 hc as my spec is 700 . maybe runer amacobp preimium like i do for test good luck andy:bglasses:
I'm in the same boat as Nate. My cars are registered in NW burbs of Chicago. Problem is that I've lost track of when emission inspections are due and my mailbox in USA is a dead letter bin since I've lived overseas for over seven years. In the mid 90s after returning from Europe I discovered that my drivers license was suspended due to not having passed the emissions test on one of the stored cars. I'm expecting that to happen again pretty soon if it hasn't already. Seems crazy to go through all the hassle when the cars only burn a couple tanks of gas a year. That is just how it is. I think the cars should pass once I get them in there. But you don't know until you try.
chicago emmisions hey mike you can contact the epa of illinios emmisions dept,should have number on back of letter somewhere, and ask they just suspend plates and not your licsense.i have done this for my car as engine is out and cant be tested.or you could send response letter on why cant be tested and they should do same as long as you note that is what you would like done. then when car can be tested just call them they will let you know what to do from there. andy :blast: EPA

FInally brought my baby in for emissions here is what it blew the first time CAN blow 900 ppm HC 9% of CO HAD blown 1481 ppm HC 1.2% CO NOW it blows 52 ppm HC (yes 52!) 2.5% CO oh and 5.5% CO2 It's amazing what 3 little screws can do. Nate
