It was in Wichita kansas this was caught on tape.... http://www.bangedup.com/bu_posts/liveeecarcrash.wmv
you can see the person in the red car just doesnt look at all, they just drive straight through.. maybe they assumed that traffic on the other road had to stop too.. particularly reckless given the car driving the other way too... why will people not stop to look properly!!
OUCH!!! Yup, Wichita has some real 'interesting' intersections...and quite a few older drivers which makes defensive driving all the more important. Not slamming my elders, but heck, my own grandfather (lived between Wichita and Mulvane) pulled right out in front of, and was broadsided by, two pickups there at K-15 and 103rd Street. How he survived, nobody knows...and he swore it was their fault, "they were speeding"! o No:
that or since the van made it the guy said to himself "must be clear" and went out without looking..................
That van kinda cut it close anyway... The picke up didn't even hit the breaks, I think eveybody was watching the camera crew. Interesting to note that the guy in the pick up wasn't hurt... Like I've always said, the bigger they are the more damage they do.
If they live maybe they will pay attention on driving I would bet everything that the driver of the car was busy looking at the TV crew. He is the same door knob that has to "see what happen" if there was an accident or somebody stopped by the police. Just so they can have something to talk about. Well now he can talk about this when he gets out of the hospital. I live in Fargo and they have to put a light or stop sign every 3 blocks because people can not drive. They all come in from the farm where its 1 car per square mile on a busy day. If you do not have the skills to safely pull out of an uncontrolled intersection go to one that has a light.
We call those kind of drivers NON drivers here.............. I bet the guy sez to the cop " I was distracted by the TV creww" and the cop will say " Inattentive driving huh??"
i dont understand why the driving test here is so easy.. at least in california it is. Its not suprising that there are so many accidents here in la or that drivers are so bad. Practically anyone could pass that test.. it only lasts about 15-20 minutes. All you do is just drive round the block a few times and reverse the car a couple of feet. You dont even have to really park or anything, its amazing. The written test is a joke too... apparently most of the questions are the same on all the papers... Maybe if they made the driving test much harder they would raise the driving standard a little. Its not so much speed that kills but crap non attentive ignorant selfish dumb drivers. ... I am not saying this is the case in this incident though just a general observation
You got it! Most likely the driver of the red car saw the TV crew on the corner, huge distraction then glanced to see if left side was clear and saw the van already coming across which block out the view to the left. So...the driver assumed it was all clear. OUCH. Well if it was back in NY I can tell you a half a dozen ambulance chasing blood sucking lawyers would be on board to sue the TV crew & station for causing a distraction. You know the old , "Blame everybody else line." That news caster better start going to church as he was lucky the red car didn't get shoved into his direction.
Bob Gibbs....please post that picture in your avatar in the Len Imke photo thread so everyone can enjoy it. Have any more......? Peace WildBill
The driver of the F-150 is lucky that he didn't have a second collision with oncoming traffic. I guess whoever it was that wasn't headed in the opposited direction at that moment is pretty lucky too.
Distracted? You're piloting 3500lbs at 60 MPH and something is MORE improtant? Excuses can be chisled on gravestones.
