Ok, getting ready to rewire the amp and speakers in my car and I was wondering if anyone has pictures of where they installed their amps at? I was thinking about mounting a board on top of the spare tire(which is covered with carpet and then running the wires down the top of the tire and where they have to go(they would be under the carpet cover on the tire). If I ever need the spare tire, I could just pull the board and get it. I am doing this all in a convertible and I will have 2 6x9's in the pump area, so I can not squeeze the amp there. Show me some pictures of where you put your amps!!!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

If it wasn't raining I'd get you a pic. mine is mounted in the trunk behind the back seat on the (for lack of a better word) the bulkhead.

Thanks for the offer, but I can not mount mine there since I have a convertible and the 6x9's, pump and the top(down position) all go right there. Anyone have any setups in the trunk area along the sides, back, or something else??

I had thought about that too, but I have bucket seats, so I don't know if I will be able to fit it under there!! How did you fasten it down??

I just paid it in there...it fit nice and snug.

The last one I did, I ran a couple sheet metal screws through the floor to keep it in place.

Whatever you do, DO NOt mount it upside down! The "fins" on the amp NEED to radiate heat or one or more of the protection circuits will shut down.

I have a bench seat, and my amp is right under the driver. The carpeting holds mine in place, but if you have loop carpeting this might not work so well.

I got more than just the 6x9's. I am going with 2 6x9s in the back, 2 6.5" speakers in the kickpanels and then 2 4" speakers in the dash to round it out. I am going to run the amp to the 2 6x9's and the 2 6.5" speakers and run the front dash speakers from the radio to get some highs. Should sound pretty good.

I mounted mine gulp.. upside down in the trunk above the spare tire, you cannot see it unless you lay in the trunk on your back. I have it in the 69 wildcat. You'll need to mount a sub or 2 in the trunk for that extra kick, if you mount subs get a head unit that allows you to adjust the sub from the deck or get an amp or powered subs that have a remote adjustment for sub levels. It seems every song has different Sub bass volume and if you can't adjust the volume while driving it'll either be too hard or too soft? I'll post pics when I get a chance, Gord

I'm mounting my amp under the passenger bucket on my '69 GS 400. I cut a piece of board to fit, got some strap steel (the kind perforated with holes, you can get it at a home store like Home Depot), cut them to fit over the seat mount studs at all four corners and screwed them to the board also. Now it doesn't move. I painted the board and steel black in order to camouflage them a bit. The amp I used is a Sony XM-4S Slim Series 4-channel car amplifier, purchased specifically because I wanted something small enough to fit in the passenger compartment.

Now the next question is where to stuff the CD changer...glovebox (even w/o liner) is too small on my air car.

No photos yet, would have to pull the seat to take 'em, maybe later.

hey john did you remove the emergency brake pedal? are those custom kickpanels? by who?

Nope, the panels fit without removing the e-brake (either permanently or for installation purposes). I did have to trim the speaker grille a little bit on one side to allow for unfettered clearance - used a grinder on the plastic, took about 1/2 second. The panels are from Custom Autosound (www.customautosound.com) - look under 'speaker options.' I buy my stuff from Bob at rgclassictunes.com. He seems to have the lowest markup on their stuff. The panels fit very well, I did have to trim the driver's side by about 1/2 inch at the bottom to help the fit along. I bought mine without speakers installed since I wasn't crazy about either of their installed-speaker options.

Looks good. I ended up using the same speakers as you for the kick panels(Polk DB651's in Custom Autosound panels). I also used some Polk 6x9's and put some 4" speakers in the dash. I just got finished today installing all the speakers, kickpanels, etc.. I just need to wire up my radio and amp and I am set to go. I ended up mounting the amp in the trunk, but I am using 2 pieces of wood velcro'ed to the floor and then my carpet laying over it with the amp mounted there. I got a nice Kenwood 4 channel amp(barely used) from my brother, so I figured I would save some money and spend it elsewhere. I will have to take some pictures of all of it when I am done!!

Thanks for taking the pictures of the amp mounted though, I will definitely consider this if I replace the interior in my car and rewire stuff!
