Ray the bucket seats were not drilled through the floor. they had special brackets welded to the floor with studs coming up to place the seat tracks on. I know this was the way in 70-72 probably also 73. Only the outside rear had a bolt going through the floor. The seats will never be right without them. Some companies sell the inside but not the outside front bracket. Check out the floor picture on your other post!

dave when i unbolted my bench seat,i put my drivers bucket seat right where the bench was bolted, frame rail lined up perfect rite where bench seat rail was,in front of bucket a bolt goes into the floor in a threaded hole.in the rear next to door there is a big part where seat belt is that has a stud sticking up that a nut goes on.now on the inside by console i drilled 2 holes through floor and bolted that down.seat looks fine except it needs to go back more.is there a way to do something to the tracks to make seat go back further.i know i read on here one time where someone had the same problem and he told him to do something to the tracks.just cant remember what.thanks for the help. Don't worry about it - you'll eventually grow into it :)

Take the seats off and look at the tracks and grease them up good and make sure they move freely. After 30 years they tend to get stuck this may be the problem but the bucket seat position is often different from the bench so you may never solve this by using the same holes. Also if you drilled the floor boards did you use nuts on the bottom? The seats could rip from the floor in an accident creating a dangerous condition if not installed correctly by just tapping the floor boards.

dave maybe thats the problem, tracks move freely, but maybe the bench mounts in different spot than the buckets.wish i had another car like mine to compare it to.on drivers side in back of seat there is a seat belt retractor on the floor and the bucket track sits on top of that with a nut going on it.dont know if i can move the seat belt retractor back or not.i looked under car and there is a big star bolt holding it to the floor.there is only one hole in floor where that bolts.i hate customizing, see yah Ray
