I have a 70 GS, now with no dash lights. Sepdo bulb went and the rest was already dark. I tried to take off the Dash Cover with the lenses on it that cover the clock, spedo, and rally gauges but couldn't figure it out. First I removed the 4 obvious screws. I then removed the two screws holding on the plate below the steering colum to find two more screws attached to the Dash Cover. Took them out too! The lower portion of the panel now moves but not enough to remove the entire panel. It binds into the top of the colum. The top portion either has more screws or is stuck. What am I missing here! o No:
Doesn't the lense cover come off with out removing all of the gauges? I just can't believe there's this much work just to replace some bulbs.
It is a big PITA, but once youve done it a couple of times, it gets easier. I have never seen a way to remove the gauges from the front because the are mounted with screws from the inside of the dash. As you can see, there is not much room to work with there. The funniest part of the job was wondering why I have to take the glovebox out to replace some bulbs behind the cluster. I was laughing (and cussing) most of the time.
The speedo cable is a pain. If you are a contortionist you might get some of the bulbs replaced without completely removing the cluster.
