I remember that marine engine built from the aluminum blocks- I may have a pic at the home computer too :Comp:

    Update on this V-16
Dad called and sounded really happy- not normal!
Just got the thing running, no oil leaks and Smooooooth.
He has to assemble the front end sheetmetal and get the water pump rebuilt- it did leak.

V-16 (135* V, flathead) has custom made pistons, custom made hydraulic roller cam, custom made hydraulic roller lifter keepers all designed and installed by
my (wildman) father. I'm pretty proud of him! The best thing is he will run this at least a couple times at our local dragstrip. Just to see what it runs. Then he plans on driving it, it has a Gear Vendors OD unit installed already!

    Ted

Never heard of a 501 Caddy but the 1970 500 made 400 hp and 550 ft lbs of torque. Not exactly a smog slouch!

    Ted,
You have to make him video it and post it to youtube! I want to hear that thing!
BTW, any chance your dad has an extra V16 or know where one is located?

We did a search ourselves for an extra block to modify - word was most of the V-16 castings cracked and its very hard to find any extras. There is a guy in Hemmings called FEN Enterprises that does cadillac resto's and parts. He seemed like he had some knowledge on the cars.

    Good Luck! Ted :TU:

There is one of these V16 ('38) Caddys here in Sydney. Its black, and in concourse condition. Sadly, I didnt get to snap any pics of it at the car show the other week. Ill see if I can find some somewhere. This car had the engine running, with a 50c coin stood on its end on the block. The coin moved about 1mm every few minutes. So smooth and quiet you couldnt tell it was running unless you looked at the fan/belts. Beautiful!

I've witnessed Packard V-12's idling at 200 rpm.
The only way to know they were running was to look at the fan and belts also.
