Finishing up new motor and need to deck the block .050 to get to zero deck. I am running TA roller rockers and have had the heads cut also. I know that the intake will have to be recut. My machinist is a little leary of taking more than .020 off.

The other option is to regrind the crank with .050 offset. Will this work with stock rods?

Will be about the same $ either way.

    gotbuick What, me worry?

If you have the block at the machinist I don't know how that's finishing up...never mind.

I have decked a block to .045. this put the Speed Pro pistons @ .005 ABOVE the deck. So to put an .050 cut on will leave you in the .010 range of the piston outside the hole.

How did you get .050 to reach zero deck?

Well fist off I bought a block that was done but I wanted my machinist to check it out. Right now the pistons are about .050 in the block at tdc. I have 'orange crush" gaskets that I believe are .043 thick. With a zero deck I should get good quench area and about 10:1 compression. The rest of the motor is ready to put together.

Stock deck height can vary. A .050 deck cut is no big deal, mine is cut more than that. I would check all the holes for height not just one of them. If your deck and heads are cut you may need to change pushrod lengths. Also check piston to valve clearance. You can't add .050 stroke with the stock rods, no bearings available, you would need to change to big chevy bearing size to gain that much stroke.

I just read a day two ago in one of the other threads in this bb that there is a .63 head gasket out there if you need it Part number and all from Detroit Gasket Co.. Check this bb or Racing 400-430-455 bb.

    Thanks Dennis,
I have seen your engine work and know the quality so I feel comfortable going with the cut if everything else checks out.
I have KB pistons with the reliefs cut in them so I should be OK there.

    Weekender,
I see you are up in Clio, that is where my heads were ported. Doug McBride is the guy and he does great work.
