I was at the junkyard this weekend, and I spotted what appeared to be a '50s vintage Buick. It was nailhead equipped, but I didn't know which variety of nailhead it was. The motor was complete, except for the carb and valve covers. It would not be usable as is, but may be good for a core.

The VIN # of the car is 4D1102768

If anyone can decode that, I'd appreciate it!

    Thanks!!

I am presuming it is a 57 model so I am also assuming it is a 364 cid. Do not rely on this opinion. I will defer to the nailhead experts on the Board.

    Hi, Scott

Braking down the Serial # the 1st Digit (4) indicates that the car is a Buick Special.
The 2nd Digit (D) Indicates that the vehicle is a 1957.
The 3rd Digit (1) Signifiys that the Buick was Assembled in Flint, MI. the 6 remaining numbers indicate the Sequential Production Number. Flint Production #'s Ranged between 1000989 to 1419460. Apparently You Buick was Assembled early in the model year.
All 1957 Buick Specials had a 364 Nailhead with a 2 barrel Carberator, either a Carter or a Stromberg. It is Rated at 250 HP. Bore 4.125 Stroke 3.4 Compression Ratio 9.5 to 1
Dual Exhaust was an Option. Standard Equipment included a Red Liner Speedometer, Glove Box Lamp, Dual horns, Trip mileage Indicator. directional signals, dual sunshades, Color-Coordinated dash.
The Information Posted was Researched from The Standard Catalog of Buick 1903-2000.
I hope this Information helps You out.
