alright. i have this carb on my 65 GS. i was told the carb and intake are off of a 66 Riv. can someone please give me some info on this carb? i am trying to find out the CFM. i have had nothing but absolute headaches with this thing and i am getting rid of it. i am planing on replacing it with an edelbrock. if anyone knows the replacement # for this carb i would appreciate that as well. thanks.

those numbers read "9B V7036240 MB"

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

That is a rare and desirable one year only setup. It will also outperform the edelbrock if rebuilt correctly. Call (732)356-4333 and ask for Phil. He's rebuilding my '66 q-jet right now. His website is www.customrebuiltcarbs.com and building that carb will cost you less than an edelbrock.

    thanks for the replys.

i'll give Phil a call. the only problem is that i had it rebuilt almost 1 year ago exactly and i still had problems with the carb even after the rebuild.............and every day since.

My eyes picked up a missing linkage rod that controls the choke butterfly on the airhorn, and the vacuum fitting on the rear of the throttle plate need to be plugged off, as the power brake booster is being run from vacuum from an intake runner. The cap plug on the rear of the choke coil is suspicious. Anybody got a 66 Chassis Service Manual that shows what connects there?

i removed that right before taking the picture. it keeps coming off because one end of it has been ground down. i was told by the rebuilder that he couldn't find one. i'm looking at carbs on ebay just for that piece.

    the left side ground off.

now you'll have to excuse me. i know very little about carbs, but i am trying to learn.

is the red arrow what you are talking about? because that is plugged. the blue arrow is what leads to my power brake booster.

i'm not sure of what exactly that is, it's been there since i bought the car. i'm wondering if it is to control the choke via vacuum as opposed to electric?

That choke rod looks about right. The left end goes down in the hole, right end is on top on the butterfly.

If red arrow is plugged, that's OK. Usual setup for Nailheads is to run power brake booster from rear of carb, intake runner vacuum runs the HVAC controls. But if its not broke, don't fix it.

Can't advise you on the red cap plug on the rear of the choke housing. That's a one year only setup, you need to find someone on the board with an unmolested 66 Rivi, or possibly the 401 HP setup on a Skylark GS, to let you know what is supposed to be there. I have a Carter AFB on my 64, and there is an internal vacuum connection to the choke coil housing. There's an external piece of vacuum hose that runs from a nipple on the housing to the air horn, it sucks filtered air through the choke. But that's the AFB, not the QJet. You'll have to find someone with the correct setup.

What kind of absolute headaches are you having with it? It's a 750 cfm, the only thing better (IMHO) to replace it with is a 800 cfm from a 71-74 455 Buick.

    red cap

The cap doesn't belong there, but neither does the electric choke element. This may be the reason for the red cap. Someone figured they didn't need the choke stove fitting from the exhaust manifold and plugged the fitting on the carb. I had the '66 rochester carb and manifold setup on my blue '65 GS. The choke housing should have a std. choke coil and a tube with the flared carb fitting that runs down to a blind pilot hole in the manifold this supplies preheated the air to the choke coil.
