Need some quick ideas for the camshaft selection that wound match my setup? Any brand? and where i can buy? thanks

My engine is similar with very good flowing 430 big valves heads, a 3.73 gear and Holley 950HP. I run Poston's 113A cam. I love it. It has a lope, but nothing that shakes the car much at all at a light. Idles at 750 in gear. Pulls great up to 6200 rpm's where I shift. You just have to make sure you have a fuel system to feed it. Right now I'm running just stock lines and Stage 1 pump, but I think I'm running out at the end of the 1/4 mile as the car seems to lay down right at the end.

Thanks for the input, the heads are still in the shop, I havn't decided what to do with them yet. I looked up both camshafts and both seem good to me, does anyone know anything about the lunati "hemi Killer" camshaft? good, bad?

My in-progress motor is going to be using the TA 290-08H cam also. It's 9.6:1 compression, 1 7/8" headers, .030 over 455, SP1, currently an 850 double pumper, ~2800 stall. Gear ratio hasn't been chosen yet, but will likely be in the mid/high 3's depending on tire size.

I have not started my motor yet. My setup is 462 with 69 heads with stage one valves. 1.6 roller rockers. 525/528 lift. TA 290-08h. B4b to keep torque up in the lower RPM range. I don't want to go much over 5500 RPM.
10 to 1 wiseco forged piston .018 in the hole. 63.5 cc's on the chambers. 3000 stall. 3.64 rear. Hooker super comps 1 7/8 primaries. Carb undecided.

It sounds like ours are pretty similar motors. I think I'm also .018 in the hole, but with Sealed Power pistons. I already had the pistons when I spun the rod bearing. They were a good deal used and I thought I'd just sit on them. If I didn't have them, I would have went with the Wiseco pistons.

But yours will be a 464, since the Wiseco pistons are .038 over, not .030. Also, the 08H cam is .525/.520 with 1.6 rockers. My heads are 71cc and I'm using .027 cometics to get a little bit of the compression back. I'm also going with the roller rockers (1.6). Some day down the road if I decide to go with aluminum heads, I can have them cut to bring the compression up.

But at this point I should be in pretty good shape for pump gas and iron heads.

How is the car going to be used, 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile? 4.10 gears are pretty deep for a Buick unless you are running a pretty tall tire or the car is heavy.

Do as much porting to the heads that you can afford. The engine will take as much air as you can give it with production heads and they will compliment your header size and intake better. Are roller rockers part of the combination? Because if you port the heads they will peak between .500 & .550 lift, any thing much over .500" will need roller rockers for strength reasons. **make sure your pistons are notched. Also, make sure you calculate your compression so you know that you ARE at 10:1 or close, 9.8:1 is a little more comfortable with pump gas.

If you are not dedicated to the converter most combinations would like a little more such as 2500-2800. You can get by with the 2200 with help from the gears.

For best all around street/strip and good driveability (with 500+ HP), I would recommend the TA 290-08H for heads that peak right around .500" OR the TA 290-08HL for heads that peak around .550" lift.

The Hemi Killer is a straight pattern cam, and though it has made good power, something with additional exhaust duration and/or lift compliments iron heads better. One thing to be aware of is the speed of the ramp, Lunati (and other Chevy cam companies) like to use fast ramp cams, which have similar ramp speeds as solid cams, the down fall with these is the Buick rocker is fairly short, which speeds up the action as well. The result is lifter crash (the hydraulic lifter can't keep up) right around 5200-5500. Having said that, with a solid lifter they are awesome.

The TA 288-92 only has a little split between intake and exhaust, so again it would be best suited to an aluminum head that has better flow on the exhaust.

    Good luck with your combo!
