I know this subject has been done to death but hear is another camshaft question! Im running a 1971 standard block and heads, b4b is on order, 1-7/8 long tube headers 2.5" duals, rebuilt q-jet, stock convertor, unsure of rear gears. Im about to strip down the heads ready for a full port andpolish.

    any ideas?

Well A Comp Cam Is A Great Daily Driver Cam.it Is 182 In Drive You Will Have Good Power. When You Get After It Pull It In To First Gear And Shift At 5000 Rpm Et Mid 13's At 4200 Ft Above Sea Level.

Tested In 69 Skylark Conv With T350 Trans And 3.55 Gears Hope This Helps Mike

Comp cams 280. Use an 11" converter. Good for 12.20's at 110 with pretty much the same as the rest of your set up, I'm a little lighter though...

Hi There. If you use a lower compression piston ratio 8.5 (71`engines and onward)and a stock stall you won`t be able to go too wild on the cam profile. You will have a dogger off the line IMO.You can build for torque using a TA212 or something similar in design. If your going for more compression you can up the profile a bit but then may have to consider a converter upgrade also.Try TA Performance for some ideas.Later,Tony.

I use a Crane 218 duratation 112LC 448lift. The car will do 12.50's on slicks with this
    cam. my spec's... Stage 1 455 bored to 462,balanced,stock intake,800cfm 71 quadrajet, TA headers, pertronic ignition,turbo 400, 3.64 Posi rear end.
I love this cam for the street as it has loads of torque in the lower rpm's where you needit for the street. Don't let go of your instant street torque unless you are drag racing.

Just to offer another thought, bump the compression to about 9.5 and put in a 2200-2800 stall. Straightline's small (226-238) cam will make more HP and still make gobs of torque. With the headers and porting, that sucker will want to wrap to 6k. I don't suggest you do that often, but it's nice to know it wants to! PS- it has a really cool rumpty-rump thru 3" x-pipes. Have fun! :3gears:

thanks for the info guys! raising the compression ratio is a problem as i dont want to get into new pistons etc, and i want to retain my heads (fingers and toes crossed hoping ive got the elusive high power option :Brow: )

Where can i get hold of those thin head gaskets as they will raise comp a little?

The 212 sounds like a good cam , how much of a lope does it have? Ideally i would love to have an engine that has such a lope that it nearly dies on tickover!!!! :TU:
