Is it possible to change camshaft bearings without taking the engine out off the car?
If it is, I am planning to do this at the same time as porting the heads.
I have no idea if they are worn down, but they were ok 12yars ago
If I have understood things right, these bearings is an Achilles heal on the 350 engine!

Sorry, I don't know how to change them, but I have never had any problems with cam bearings on my 350 engines.

Even had a 100K mile engine with a freshened up top end and high perf cam. Raced it quite a bit AND ran a high volume oil pump. No problems...

You will have to pull the motor to change the cam bearing.DM in Fla

You need a special installer/remover to do the job. I believe it can be done with the engine in the car. You can change all but the rear one. The rear one requires engine removal.

I'd say that the big problem is crappy oil pressure due to worn timing covers, etc.

Seroiusly, I have never had cam bearing problems with the 350's.

I have been able to replace the cam bearings on my 350, EXCEPT for the rear bearing, BUT... that was my block, some blocks do not have enough room in the lifter valley to remove the bearing from the top. I also have the special tool to remove them, sooooo in other words, yes, its better to remove the engine and tear it down, it sucks I know, but generally the 350's dont have the cam bearing problems as the 455's do. Make sure its the cam bearings before you tear into it. Mark
