I'm going to be running a '70 455 from a GS, with a 3500 stall in a car that should be about 3850 race weight. I'll be running the stock unported heads for now, most likely not upgrading till the end of this season. I haven't had any luck finding used stuff, so specs or part#s and manufacturers would be appreciated. Idle quality is not a top priority, quick ETs are the priority. I'll be running a stock bottom end, so the engine will most likely stay under 5300 RPM. Looking for at least low 12s out of the car, but the quicker the better. I know the stock heads will hold me back, but this is getting done on a tight budget for now. I am considering a custom-ground cam to help overcome the head flow issues. I'll probably be running low 3-series gears(3.23 or 3.42) with a 28" tire to keep the RPMs down. Any/all input greatly appreciated, this will be my first season running a Buick as my primary car(my 66 served very well as a backup car last year).

    Thanks,
    Artie

Stick with a dual plane intake like a Performer. I single plane SP1 only gives extra HP in the upper rpm's, like over 5500 or 6000.

I'd also stick with a q-jet like one from John Osborne or someone else that rebuilds and optimizes them. That should get you through the season with a minimum to no headaches or problems.

Phillip, I was thinking the same thing, I was hoping someone would chime in with a proven cam for my combo too. I'll probably call TA or TSP early next week and see what they recommend.

Talk to Scott Brown at Straightline Performance in MI for your cam.
He can do a custom grind for your combo.

the old 118 cam from years ago would still work good especially with those stock heads it will fool the engine into thinking it can rev beacause of the lobe displacement. It will also fit in a stock piston engine, but if you want good e.t. put some more gear in it and focus on the first half of the track for the better times and some converter kind of like how the stock eliminators do it.

I'm going to tear the engine down this week and see what has to be done, if the heads are questionable I may have to do a cleanup/mild port job. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep everyone updated.

    Thanks,

I would use a Poston GS-112 or GS-107, 4.11 gears, 3500 stall, B4B with spacer, and a worked Q-jet. You might see some 11's with that combo, if everything is matched and tuned well.
