Can any one tell me what to expect out of this cam? It will be going into a new rebuilt 1970 455 with factory pistons and nothing else special for street driving. Automatic with 3:42 gears. Will I be able to use it without a stall converter? How would it idle? How will it affect the way it takes off from a dead start compared to a stock cam? Will it run good on pump gas? If I were to change pistons what would be better than factory for this set-up?

You should install a higher stall torque converter, the idle will be a bit rough, most likely around 800 rpm, you'll want to modify your idle circuit on you carb. Without a high stall torque converter you may not be able to spin the tires where with the stock cam you should be able to. Pump gas should not be a problem assuming stock compression ratio (advertised at 10:1, actually around 9:1). This is your chance to measure everything and get your compression ratio where you want it. I'd suggest no more than 9.5:1.

    Good luck.

You should consider something like the TA212 if it`s mostly stock.Check their website.

That's a 232/244 at 0.050" 114 LC, 4 deg advanced. Overlap is 10 deg at 0.050 and 62.6 deg advertised. It will idle slightly better than and have low speed characteristics similar to a TA413. The lobes are not radical, but are asymmetrical. With the intake closing at 75 deg, which is kinda late, you could run more compression. It will defnitely run on pump gas, your DCR should be around 6.8:1, which is kinda low, it will affect low-speed torque. I would get a smaller one, or boost the SCR.
