I just have taken my engine apart for inspection and I found a hole bunch of problems. The first thing I found the Harmonic balancer was ready to come apart the rubber is hanging out on half of it. Then when i pulled the oil pan of i found a pile of shavings that used to be my bronze bushing that I had to install between the cam and the block (do to the cam wearing a groove in the block the machine shop machined out the block to fit a bronze washer of .030" between the two) .Then look into to more all of the rod bearing are in good shape the mains were good all but the #2 main was beat up pretty bad the crank is in good shape. then to remove the front cover to find the chain had alot of play in it removing the chain i found the the cam was locking in not able to turn it by hand i looked thought the bottom of the block to find the cam bearings were hanging out of the sides round the cam i tryed to remove the cam by using a screw i got it but 1/4" out and give up but the cam looks to be in good shape . I'm clueless on what would have caused all this to happen the engine has 112 passes on it and was all new parts for last season i have run this block for 6 years now this is the third combation i have run in it never had a cam problem before any ideas or help would be great thank tomorrow i will post a few pictures

    Thanks Mike

Are you running the hi vol/hi press oil pump? If so I would say that is you're problem. How do the gears look on the dist. and cam look?

Yea i Have had the same oil pump set up on the last three motors that i have had and never had a problem before it is just a 1/4" hi-volume spacer and the oil presure it set at 75psi at the top end of the track at 6700 rpm and the gears all look brand new no signs of wear

    Which cam bearings?
I assume the 112 runs were on these bearings?
    Assuming you didn't re-use them?
I have the same deal with the bronze washer behind the cam...I drilled a .060'' hole behind it into the main oil feed to lubricate the washer. Now would be a good time to do that.
What is the seat pressure on your valve springs?

The cam bearings were new with just about everything else .
Gary do you use a cam button or something to hold the cam in place and also the .060 hole that goes right in the the oil passage to the first cam bearing right?and the valve spring are 160lbs. at 1.900 and 410lbs. at 1.300 installed at 1.900 i believe..
so do you think that the bronze washer got worn out do to lack of oil and the cam walking in and out worn the bearings and I don't remember the make of the bearing but they weren't groved

If you're looking at the front the block the hole is at 8:30 and it goes into main feed where it meets the first cam journal.
I would do this and order up a good set of TA's cam bearings, replace that bushing/washer and try it again.Sounds like the bearings were not that good.
I run a roller so the cam is limited to .012 endplay by way of the bronze thrust washer and a torrington set-up for a button.

Oh yeah......Get a good balancer on that thing.
I've seen the stockers crap out on a low 12 second motor

    CAM?

What kind of cam was it? where did you get it from? I had the same thing happen to my first motor on its 4th camshaft. There was never anything wrong with the other cams, I was just looking for a little bit more on the street with nitrous. My motor was still in its first year with a stock oil pump on it.

Hey Randy, I can set you into the stock balancer that I just took off my car. I does have some extra features to it. Like most of the rubber is hanging out the back side. This adds a lot to looks. Kinda like pin stripping a car. Also the outer ring has a nice wobble to it, which gives it character. Of course you'd have to pay a little more for these features. Just let me know.

yea the balancer is a must i should have changed it before good thing it stayed together. but for the cam torrington set you use for a button i'm not sure what that is. is it some thing that t/a sells?
