Are they asking for deposits, or are you just suggesting it as a means to facilitate production? :)

    Awesome news, BTW.

TA is not ASKING for deposits it was just my way of making sure I get the heads ASAP so I can hit the dyno with 20 PSI of boost and publish my book ASAP!!!! I am SURE that deposits would help them get this stuff done quicker!

I am so sick of hearing "Sean is all talk", I need some killer dyno numbers ASAP.... Then track time and wheelies for this crazy Canuck!

Why would you want to bring up Bull Dog? TA had nothing to do with that and has never stiffed customers for deposits on a new product. AND has never asked for deposits up front.

I myself have not had bad transactions with TA,but know many that have. So,if you think they haven't made mistakes, you are incorrect. My point is,when they make 25 sets of heads and the supposed people who said they would step up,don't step up and they sell 5 sets, then I can see them stopping production. Now is the time for people to really back their word and not be a tire kicker...

That is great news Sean! And, your new weapon looks excellent!

Are you going to run a roller cam too? That will make as much difference as the heads. What kind of rods?

  13. BUICKRAT

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

I just don't think there are enough hard core guys that will actually put out when the heads are done. T/A will need to sell alot more than 100 sets to make it worth their while. Remember, these heads don't fit mustangs, and its not like the waiting lines are really long to get a set (read people with 3k+++ in their hands). Alot of chatter does not mean (unfortunately) alot of money.

If only there was a way to sell them to the sbc guys....

OK guys, now that you (may) have your heads, lets see how many blocks/cranks/rods you will need. The SBB has had nowhere near as much testing as the BBB, sure, they may be a little thicker, but all beasts have their own weakness. The blocks have seen nowhere near enough testing to get repeatable results. Sure, a couple made some big numbers, but so did a couple BBB's without any help. The only reason you hear about BBB's blowing up is because they made some big numbers before they did, and had superior torque/hp. That is why people will spend money on them.

At what point does a crusade for the sbb become a waste of money? I'm pretty sure the money Sean gave them is purely a gesture, to get this project going, and he has no timetable as far as a return (either heads/intake or refund) is concerned. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Good luck, though

I'm thinking the "hard core guys" will buy the heads bare,so the cost would probably be under $2,000,probably $1,500 plus or minus,I know thats how I would buy a set.(I must be hard core, lol) And sure some bolt on guys will buy fully assembled heads as well.

Testing will be when parts are available. Although some have pushed the limits with a sbb 350 in the past with no aftermarket support. I have a feeling some part availabilities are going to happen very soon for the "hard core guys".:Brow:

A full girdle for a sbb 350 would be so much easier to make a fully skirted block than for the 455,and weigh at least 1/3 less IF the HP and torque limit of the block is ever found. Boosted sbb 350s will get more popular with heads and an intake to make BIG power, are you afraid to lose a race to a sbb 350,is that why you're bashing it?

At what point does any crusade for HP become a waist of $$$?(no one can answer that but the person spending the $$$) Why are you being so negative about the sbb 350 getting some aftermarket support? If you like 455 Buick engines, why do you dislike the sbb 350 so much? Do you realize that a sbb 350 will weigh less than 400 lbs with aluminum heads and intake(probably around 375lbs),and if TA does a decent job on the heads(which they always do)a sbb 350 will make a a lot of HP to how much it weighs.

I'm sure Sean wants the heads and intake YESTERDAY,and that would be his time line.(but I'm sure Sean can speak for himself)

Well I'm sorry that TA making sbb 350 heads and a S/P intake is so irritating to you,but goodluck though.(beating a boosted sbb 350 in a race that is)

    Hi JW,

The good news is that although I have a big mouth I also have a big bank roll to bank it up. Just because I have not ran 9s yet does not mean that I am some poser who does not work on his cars....

This pretty much sums up the who 455 vs 350 deal:

    1. The 455 is a larger displacement engine and $ for $ it makes more HP and TQ than a 350 unless a power adder is involved.
    2. The 350 guys are jealous of the AWESOME options for alum heads that we do not yet have... The fact is that me being jealous about not having had aftermarket heads has led to most of my negative comments about the 455 (hey at least I can admit it).
    3. The Buick 350 is a much better design when talking about doubling the factory rated HP, stock the 455 are fine but there are only so many bandaids you can put on a 455 before you have a mess on the track.
    4. Now that the Aftermarket Buick 455 style engine block is produced by TA the 455 guys will be able to catch us 350 guys if they have the $$$$$.

I answered some of your questions above but here is a bit more info:

How many Buick 350s do I have you ask?

I have 18 Buick 350s and I am fully prepared to drive my jacked up Chevy to Ohio and Buy Sonny Seal's wrecked Skylark if I have to! If I do one thing before I die it will be making over 1021 HP with a Buick 350 and running a 9 second pass with a full weight street legal Skylark... I may be 85 before I do it but I have 55 years till then!

Maybe after you get a publishing deal for a Book about Buick performance, and make $4000 off of articles for a Hot Rod magazine then you can toss rocks at me but until then please sit back down Steve and back off.....

At what time does a crusade for Buick 350 performance become a waste of money you ask?

Come on now! $ for $ the LSX is the best engine in the world and NO ONE can even start to argue that... Will I build one? No I like Buicks and will still with a Buick heart in my Buicks because this is a hobby not a money saving exercise! If I was looking for a "good investment" I would collect vintage Harleys but screw that... You only live once... Life is to short to not live your dreams. If I went to an aftermarket block then I would use a LS platform LSX or DART but aftermarket is aftermarket so why spend $25,000 to build a BBB vs $10,000 for a better LS engine? The answer is of course the same as my answer.... I don't care if Buick 350s at 1000+ HP are a "economic" option... I want to prove it can be done.... Then prove that 550 HP with a stock idle is EASY and reliable with a stock shortblock, TA heads, and intake... How much more of a bang for the buck do you get if you can do a head, cam, and intake swap and gain 200 HP???

I was 16 when I sold all my mustangs and bought a 76 Century and the journey has been life changing! Buicks have changed my life and I have no issue with helping other people with their projects!!! As much as I love to collect Buick 350s for my future projects I still scan the local classifieds and sell them cheap so that I can help another Buick 350 powered Buick LIVE again without artificial respiration in the form of a Chevy 383 stroker.

Please do not get me wrong, you have always been supportive but skeptical of the 350 stuff and that's cool... I always enjoy your posts so please do not think I am trying to be rude to you.

TA will not rip anyone off for a deposit and would NEVER ask for my money back even if the heads or intake fell through which they will not!!!! I have been trying for YEARS to give TA my money to get this rolling... I offered to pay up front for 3 sets of heads and intakes CASH up front and they would not take my money.... As the people in the "know" already know TA will take on the projects that the Buick people need!!! Thank god TA did not give up after they lost money on the "Buick V6 aftermarket block"...

I know one product that will never be made and that is a Buick 350 aftermarket block because........ WE DONT NEED IT...

I will run a TA custom roller cam but I am not ready to order as I need some dyno testing and track testing before I make that move... I have 3 Poston 114 cams ready to go as they are the beast match for turbos for an off the shelf cam. Rollers are great but I am going to make some serious power without the roller and then make that jump as I work towards the 1022 HP goal I have set. The current world record for a Buick 350 is 1021 HP at 355 CID.

Herche custom stock replacement rods... EXACT stock specs but WAY stronger... I own 3 sets of these $1200 rods:
