calculating volt drop from house to garage

    Looks like the grounding/bonding issues differ a bit between Canada & the US.
    I don't want to mislead anyone who is unfamiliar with their own local codes.
    Stick to a couple fellows here who know your local requirements.

    The neutral and ground wire ONLY get bonded together in the MAIN service panel, from there to the garage, the neutral does NOT get bonded to the bare ground. In fact, you need to have the neutral bar in the sub-panel insulated from the panel. This is why you are having a problem: When the neutral & ground is bonded in a sub-panel, 1/2 the return current is flowing in the insulated neutral (100% should be), and the other 1/2 is flowing in the Bare Ground :eek2: back to the main panel (very dangerous too)! :error: :error: :error:

    Please fix it. :)

    Oh, I'd like to add do not touch the metal box (especially if the floor is wet), until after you fix it. :Smarty:
