c-clip elims' rear, what options after cut?

Hello again. I have a rear that has c-clip eliminators installed. They need new seals & bearings. Once a rear is cut for the eliminator block/seal assemblies, the rear is committed to running eliminators (ends are cut off just outside the backing plate). Besides getting new seals & running these (which leaked on the brakes), what other options are there? I have heard about putting Ford 9" outers on the axles.
    Thoughts/help?

You can change the housing end to accept 3.150 bearing with small GM ends, but it requires a jig more cutting and welding. It is worth it. Oh yah, and a new set of axles with the correct bearing offset.

Thanx Jeff, any idea what that might cost?
    Thanx.

    housing ends $60-80
    axles, bearings, retainer plates $400-$600
jig welding the rear- priceless! about $100

I would stay away from Moser axles that are under 35 spline. I have seen too many broken Moser axles. I have a friend that has an AMC Rebel that runs 14 flat, he has broken atleast 2 Moser's already. I think his are 29 spline. All prices depend on what brand you want.

    Jim,
Ck Mark Williams as well, they offer an even wider variety of weld-on hsg ends.

Start adding up the price of the large tapered bearing MW housing ends, & MW's bearings & seals, & you'll see why I'm using reclaimed A10 hsg ends & A10 bearings on many 10-11 sec steet-strip rearend builds.

Thanx Jeff. Hey oph, you replied on an older thread of mine with some quality information. At the end of it I think I pm'd ya & replied again because I did not completely understand. Can I get these & have them welded on the 12 bolt rears? Where could I find these ends/bearings? Will they work with the axles I have? What do you think I would be looking at financially? Good to hear from ya' & thanx.

If you have stock axles and you weld on big bore housing ends your stock axles will not work. The OD and bearing offset will not work with the new ends. If you put the new ends on you will have to buy an after market axles with a 3.150 bearing OD and you will also have to open up your backing plates to fit over the larger bearing. If I can post a picture I will show you the differences, I build these rear quite often. Do not buy new ends and weld them on without a jig!

    rear end flanges

    John,

Just wanted to let you know..& to keep in mind, that when
installing after-market housing ends, you may have to change your
    brakes also.
That is what I will need to do... I installed Big Ford bearing housing ends
& will have to buy a new braking system for the rear to accommodate the housing flange to axle flange dimension. Which in my case is 2.5".
I quess this dimension changes between housing end types? :Do No:
I know it did for me.
    Just another added cost.

I will be crossing these roads soon. what's invalved with the jig? can i buy it somewhere or can i make it. i have access to a bridgeport. I need to buy axles and would rather convert to the ford bearings instead of the pillow blocks, while i am there. what are good disk brake options with those? anything readily available off a newer model?
