I went through this last year. Three names came up on several of the turbo Buick boards. PTS Transmission Center in CA (Art Carr), CK Performance in New Jersey I believe ( Chris there is great to talk to), and Vince Janis of Janis Transmissions in Akron, OH. Vince gets most of his parts from Art Carr of CK. I did end up having Janis build my trans as I know next to nothing about them.

Another place is the Transmission Center. I believe they're in Louisiana.

Luckily his shop is only 1/2 hour from my house, so I went with him and have been very pleased with the trans. I've had it out on the street and at the strip with no problems whatsoever.

Here are the links to these places:

I have a 200 4r trans that was supposed to have been out of a GN but I think it was out of an Monte Carlo SS car. I have a hardened sun shell for it as well.

the tranny would be a great core. and I would let it go cheap.
if you are interested PM and I will get as many of the facts off the valve body as possible.

    Thanks
    Joe

The ones out of the GN's are the BRF-tagged transmissions. Those are the best ones, but you'll pay at least $250 just for a core they're so coveted. The big thing is the valve body.

Performance Trans is not any part of Art Carr. It is owned by Bruce Toole, owner of turbobuick.com, developer and manufacturer of some of the best hard parts for the 200-4r, and a pretty straight guy in my experience. He just moved his shop to Wilton, CA and I have no doubt he can supply you with what you need. He built the trans in my Skylark.

CK performance has a building manual available, and there are numerous tips in the transmission section of turbobuick.com.

And Art Carr transmissions (here in Abilene, TX) apparently doesn't have any connection to Art Carr other than the name. :Do No:

I went by awhile back, and all I got was a $2600 quote/pricesheet. Not very much in the way of Buick-speak there that I could tell....

I saw Art Carr on "OverHaulin'" not long ago and I could have sworn that was the trans shop he now had. Maybe I'm wrong. I've known that it's not the place in Texas for a while, like years.

Yes, he's got a shop in Northern Cal. He sold his name to some dirtbags that ripped or are ripping alot of people off. He said he went back into business to clear his name. So there is only one Art Carr, but two businesses using his name. Clear as mud?

If I keep my Skylark I am going to take it over there and get a 200 4R put in it. That and hook the Air back up. I need something to make the car interesting again.
