I don't understand. What is it with people painting the brake boosters anyway? The car is pretty nice looking otherwise, but detailing the engine bay with yellow paint just doesn't do it for me.:Dou:

If it was a Chevy, it would have a chromed booster and a purple engine

okay, so the engine paint is bad (frankly the booster doesn't bother me..a lot of people can't afford a replated booster when it could be 2-300 bucks spent elsewhere), but the car still looks damn nice inside and out.

    $200-300??

    I plate these for $150.00..

    all the time..

Looks like they went with a custom look on that car... put a lot of effort into it, but kinda missed the mark if you ask me..

Too bad, could have real easily been a 12K clone.. painted the correct colors, and with a proper black interior. Lots of little stuff wrong, but nothing that could not be fixed with a little effort.

really doesn't look like a clone per se, he just wanted the stripes...still bears GS badges, a chrome mirror and a skylark grille(i think? my custom grille is different).

and my apologies, jim, i remember seeing those boosters for some outrageous prices somewhere else...probably a 'resto' catalog like opgi. still irks me as to how many guys care about things like that, though. i about crap myself when i hear some stuff...like the big bolt dilemma in the chassis forum. heh, wrong bolt head markings? nothing against tim or anyone, i just fail to see a point in that. granted, the booster thing is a little bigger, but i guess i'm just not a 'concours' kinda guy.

Helped a friend of mine with a 71 Cutlass a few years ago. Car was painted 76 Corvette yellow and he insisted on painting the engine yellow too! BIG MISTAKE, might be an ok color if you don't like driving the car....

  10. ....and I'm not a soccer fan....:Do No: To each his own. I'm going to have Jim replate my booster one of these days, 'cause it looks like crap, in a pretty darn clean engine compartment.

If you have seen the stuff I have built, you can understand that I like custom stuff as much as the next guy, just as long as it's done tastefully. But when it comes to painting things that are supposed to be plated, then I kinda have to draw the line..

And a nice properly plated booster is not a huge expense in the grand sceme of things. And having the booster done correctly makes a huge impact on what the car looks like under the hood. Easily worth many times the cost to do it, when it comes to the value of the car. I think if the guy with that clone would have done the booster, hood hindges, and hood latch in the correct plating, and painted the motor, and the bottom of the hood the correct color, and sprayed the trunk with the right trunk spatter paint, and threw in a repro mat, he prolly would get several thousand more for the car, than he is going to get now.. and we are talking about a few hundred bucks difference in what it cost him to do it the way it is done now.

    Booster cad plating .. $150.00

Hood latch cad plating .. $45.00

mag phosphate on the hood springs/hindges..$150.00

That would be the only difference in price.. and with the motor, hood underside and trunk more correct, it would make a huge difference on how that project presents itself, to buyers.

Mmmnnn.. guess I need to advertise better...

Personally I like the way it's painted. I wouldn't have choosen yellow, dirt would be way too noticable... and I've got better things to do besides polish my motor clean... but I think it looks good... if the guy restored it to resell it, then it was a big mistake, but if he restored it for himself, and liked it this way, but has to sell it, then more power to him.
