The year was 1996, the place SE Virginia my car was a 1972 GS Stg.1 auto.A/C 3.08 gears bone stock except for the HEI with Super coil and 8.8mm wires and reworked Q-jet, car was well tuned.
The Competition a clubmembers 79 Trans Am with a 70 "G" head 455 Olds headers and a 2.73 gear, automatic also, he had just swapped the anemic 403 for the 455 a few weeks earlier and was talking smack to all of the Muscle car club members we belonged to.
1 Saturday our club had a run thru the Virginia country side it would be 60 or 70 mile cruise trhu some desolate straight country roads, it was a gorgeous day in the high 60s low 70s the sun was out and we had no less than 15 Muscle Cars(no daily, everyday, beaters or new cars were allowed to cruise)only old detroit Iron.
OK let me get back to the kill, by all means I did not have the fastest car on that cruise that day, so him and his T/A made their move and got next to me on a stretch of LONELY Hwy that went about 3 miles straight( I do not condone wreckless street racing any more, this was not)it seemed that the other club members in front knew what was about to happen and gave us the right of way, so after some smack talking cruising about 45 we both Punched it I manually put it in 2nd and walked him by 2 car lenght before it stabilised and I slowly started to creep ahead by then we were at about 100 when I let go and so did he.
Later when we stopped to get some libations he admitted that he had no more and never had a Buick pull ahead of him as hard as I did.
I unfortunately had to sell the car 2 years later, personal reasons but really had a good time with it.
Well hope you enjoy 1 of my many kill stories to come.

I now what you mean about camaro's/corvette's. it is alway fun to beat up on the smack talkers. funny thing is they never want to talk after the race.
