Hi guys , I'm running a Buick Turbo V6 in a "87 Grand National . Problem being is that I recently installed a stroker kit with a "non-knurled" BA Performance stroker crank . and like alot of others who also have done the same , we are experiencing heavy rear main oil leakage using the FelPro Neoprene replacement seal for the Buick V6 . my question is this , will a Buick 350 seal fit in a Buick V6 ? If so is the lip on the 350 seal larger/heavier . from what I can gather it will fit .

also I've read about using a Ford 460 cu/in seal on a Buick 350 . Is this seal any better or different ?? I have two FelPro numbers for the Ford 460 rear main seal (#BS40654 and #BS40032) . What's the differance in the two seals if any ?

Bottom line is I'm looking for a alternative 2 piece seal that will do a better job than the FelPro that is now available for a Buick V6 .

Thanks in advance , any help or info will be VERY appreiated .

No do not use the buick 350/ford 460 seal. call TA performance and order thier v6 seal.

I was under the impression that their seal was a Ford 460 seal .

I have had some leakage problems with the neoprene seals also. The way I solved it was to put the seal ends 1/4" or so offset from the mating lines of the block. I also use the Loctite 518 sealant. I very sparingly use my finger to spread a thin/little/very small amount on the flat, rear part of the seal that goes against the block & main cap. Also a little dot on the ends of the mating surfaces of the seals. But, I'd almost be willing to bet that the leak is actually coming from the seals that seal the main cap to the block. The neoprene cap/block seals are kinda hard to install. I use the sealer on those also. Don't forget the little "Nails" supplied in the package. They go between the cap & seal, NOT the block & seal. When I can I most like to use the older style seals in this area if they come in the gasket rebuild kit.

Did you put the correct sealant on the area of the main cap after cleaning? Sometimes offsetting the seal mating halves works wonders. like other poster earlier says.

Yeah it is for the 350, and there is a v6 seal that is different from ta.

The 350 and V6 use the same rear seal, National Oil Seal p/n 5591.

The BBF 460 and SBB 350 both share 3.0" main diameters but other than that I'm not sure if the ford seal will work. The federal-mogul site shows info for those p/n's you have but it doesn't give any dimensions.

    BS40032 is rubber
    BS40654 is viton
