Buick Sport Steering Wheel Supplier?

I've seen the Chevelle wheels in catalogs, but I am unsure if they have the stainless insert around the outer edge of the wheel like my Buick one does.

    Does anyone know?

I saw a Buick one in a catalog but the top 2 "bars" looked to go directly horizontal across the center of the wheel instead of angling up like mine does.

    Is that correct?

Can someone tell me a good supplier? I am looking for a black one.

I will have a brown one available for sale or trade in a few weeks.

Zip corvette. Vettes used the same wheel as Skylarks for a number of years. Perhaps www.opgi.com also.

OPGI is the catalog where the wheel doesn't look right.

Could be the angle it is shot from. I am not sure.

Do the Chevelle wheels have the stainless insert around the outer edge of the wheel?

Corvettes, Chevelle and Skylarks used the same wheel. The ones you saw on OPG's site are aftermarket. You can get new ones for $$$$$$.
    Visit www.zip-corvette.com for more details.

If you are patient and willing to dye, you can get a colored one on Ebay for less than $120.

I already have a brown one.

Will the vinyl dye work on a steering wheel?

Make sure you clean the wheel extremely well......extremely well !

You can use vinyl dye. SEM seems to be the best. Also, spray a light coat of the vinyl prep which is an adhesion promoter.

You may have to redye the wheel 2-3 years later depending on use.

If you use a steering wheel, cover, dye will last as long as the car.

I use SEM too. It is made in Charlotte. I think it is sold by www.yearone.com. As George says cleaning firsrt with a solvnet like grease and wax remover, use their adhesion promoter, and then the dye. I use their Labrador? black. The exact name escapes me but it starts with an L.

Jim, I believe the color you mentioned is Landau Black. I dyed the entire interior of my wagon with SEM Landau Black using 5-6 spray cans. I followed the instructions to the letter using a plastic/vinyl cleaner several times, then a couple light coats of an adhesion promotor, and finally a couple of coats of the black dye. I used it on the dash, the doorpanels, plastic parts, everything. So far it's been on there for about a year with no problems.

Jeff, I have a couple cans laying around if you need the exact number. It's not a real gloss black either which is what I wanted. I picked mine up at the local autobody supply store. It's not cheap either - roughly $11 for one spray can.

Thank you. As we like to say "You have refreshed my recollection".

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having the surface clean. For example, I dyed the plastic vents on the kick panels. I had to wash them many times with soap and water and use a Q tip before they were clean enough to apply the SEM cleaner.

The only part not made new/repro is the BUICK horn button.

    I'm bidding on it.

So I will be selling my brown one if anyone is interested. I'll post it in the for sale section if I win this one.

Paul, I will be visiting my auto body supply place to see if they have or can order me the Landau Black paint.

Paul, please provide me the #. I just visited the auto paint supply store and asked for SEM Landau Black and the guy had no idea what I was talking about.

He has Semi Gloss and Gloss SEM Black.

He also told me lacquer is no longer available to be mixed and then sprayed from a gun. But my regular paint supplier (who is now many miles from where I work) just told me they still sell it. I'll see if they have the SEM Landau, and if not I'll just squirt my dash with lacquer.

    No problem!

Jeff, Landau Black is part of the SEM Colorcoat line with the part # being 15013. On the spray can, the following description is given:
    SEM Colorcoat
    Flexible Coating
-Changes or renews color on most flexible & rigid plastics, carpet, vinyl & velour

It also recommends a vinyl/plastic prep such as # 3834 or 3835 and a flexible bonding agent (# 3986) to promote adhesion.

Let me know if you need anything else. Good luck!
