Back in 2001 I had the 462" Buick that is now in my '64 skylark in a '67 Jeep J2000 4wd truck. It looked and sounded like your average off roader with 35" tires, 2.5" duals with flowmaster 40's, but what the Mustang owner didn't account for was that I wasn't "joe smallblock owner", I was packing mildly warmed up big torque Buick power. I was going to tech school in Phoenix and was on my way home at night when a fox body stang pulled up next to me on a quiet stretch of road on the outskirts of town. A stop sign brought the two of us side by side. The moment he came to a stop I heard the little 5.0 snapping some revs and I looked over to see the passenger motioning for a run. I normally don't condone street racing, but I was looking at a bunch of desert and 2 kids in a Mustang that were soon to be in for a surprise. Mid summer in Phoenix we all had the windows down so I told them to go when they were ready as I held down the brake and loaded the motor up to the 2400 stall of the converter on my T400. He was rowing his own and launched hard in first with pretty bad wheel spin. I dropped the brake and let the big block start breathing and shot past him like he had stopped. Quickly into second and I glanced in the mirror on my left to see the 'stang trying valiantly to hold with my back bumper. Mid-way through third he was fading back slowly and I figured it was time to lift. When they pulled along side the driver had his head down and the passenger was laughing hysterically at him. The passenger turned and gave me a thumbs up as we rolled to the next intersection. I'm sure it was quite some time before that poor kid lives down getting stomped by a rusty old pickup truck.
