My brother and i are going to BPG Nats and we were debating on what we should drive down. i figured i could take a tally of what other people think. So, i think we should take our awesome 1965 electra(401cid). my brother thinks we should take his buick- powered(462cid)chevy 3/4 ton scottsdale pick-up. so what do you guys think would be cooler to take along. a classic or a bore over 455 buick-chevy?

I can't believe that there have been no responses here!
So, I guess you will have to go with my uncontested ruling :Smarty:

    Classic Buick!!!
Who would want to make a road trip in a CHEVY TRUCK (even if it is Buick powered) when you can travel in a Nailhead-powered Electra! :TU:

This is Jason's brother, I'm the one that's going to decide what we're driving :Brow:

He's neglecting to mention the nasty smell that the '65 electra has to it. If it didn't have the fragrant aroma of mice living in it for 18 years, driving the electra would be a no-brainer! The smell gets into your clothing and luggage, and we'd smell like mouse excrement and mold the whole time we're at salem. I don't want that!

The biggest upside the electra has, other than the "cool" factor, is that it gets excellent gas milage! (18MPG average driving to GS Nats in '03)

So what does everyone think now?

the smell isnt that bad in it! so what i think now is umm.... good gas mileage, power, style, coolness, uhh... i think the electra should be driven.

I wish it were that easy!!! :ball:

The amount of cleaning I've done on this car to try and get rid of the smell is unbelieveable.

The carpet is gone. I removed it from the car, and shampooed it multiple times. After no luck there, I tried using different smell removers, mold removers, pet odor removers..... As a final resort, I loaded up the power washer with chemicals way too tough to be using on carpet. After that didn't work, I let the carpet hang out over the clothesline outside for over a month. I washed it with different soaps, and soaked it with water over, and over, and over. None of that did a thing for the smell. The carpet still looked great, but I was sick of it. I threw it in the trash.

My luck with the seats, and any vinyl surface has been the same. Multiple scrubbings, all the same odor, mold, and pet products I mentioned above. I removed the entire interior removed from the car. Seats, carpet, dash, door panels.... When I did that, I POR-15'ed the floor, the insides of the doors, and the panel between the trunk and the back seat, after multiple scrubbings. That temporarily got rid of the smell, until I put the interior back in.

I brought parts inside and let them soak in cleaner and hot water w/soap, and let them air out for days. Once again, my attempt failed.

After much money and time spent on cleaning, I've given up. I'm convinced that the only way to eliminate the smell is to have every last piece of the interior re-upholstered. :(

I guess if I drive the electra to nats, at least everyone will know when I'm around, from the smell of it! :Dou:

it seriously isnt that bad. if you put down some blankets over the seats then it doesnt really make you smell at all, maybe just a little bit. so i need more replies for this to take the electra and then he might not take the truck if he realizes nobody wants to see it. (the truck is cool but not as much as classic buick)

( my brother posted that pic of the truck, but under my name)

You guys are nuts, but might make a good stand up team. What a hoot! Tow the truck with the Electra!

    LMAO!!!

I think the fact that you both have the Electra in your avatars is conclusive.

Reminds me of the Mythbusters episode with the dead pigs in the Corvette...

i was at the track today and i ran a 9.96 in the 8th mile and a 1.787 60 foot time. i will post a picture of the time slip.(the picture in the avatar is of me last year when i was 13 racing it)but when i thought i was doing good, on my last time trial run i was sittin at the line and the brakes went out on me. i just started to drift and then i got brake fluid all over the track. it was either a wheel cylinder or a brake line.(it was prob a brake line though) if it was a line then my brother said that we actually might drive the electra down to BPG nats. because we can fix a line in no time. if it was the cylinder then we will have to take the truck. but i just thought i would post the latest update on what we were taking down.

well i think we have figured out what we are going to do. i think that we are going to put a carter afb with 750cfm on the electra instead of the stock 450 or 500 cfm carb(or whatever it is) and then we are going to fix the brake lines on it.(we figured out it was the brake lines) because we found out that a guy on v8buick had done that and he said it dynoed another 27 horsepower!!!!! so i think it is safe to say i convinced scott to take the electra instead of the truck.
