Nice kid.... So, if I read this correctly, this is an NOS short block.... In order for it to be a stage1, it would have to have all the stage1 parts with it: heads, cam, distributor, carb, etc. This has none of that. THeoretically, someone could MAKE it a Stage1.o No:
It's basically a '76 short block that was dumped by GM in the late 80's, I missed out on the deal of $200 a pop, several friends were able to capture 5 or 6 of these! Have since sold for around $400-$600. Low compression, but really good blocks for race engines, crank and rods good stuff, pistons, 8.5 not good. RV
That's what I have. I've got about 40k on it right now. I have it out and apart ready to build. My machinest (who has done alot of TA's work for many years) is dying since I want to cut it open .038 and deck to zero for mo go since. He say's he never see's them this nice. I wonder what someone would give me for it. He's scraping around looking for blocks to save this one. He has a good 455 with no main caps, but, I need a little more than an oil pan to hold the crank.
I was talking to Mark Stevens at GSCA and they sell Billit Main Caps for $299 including the studs. I need them as well for my 70 stage 1 so I'm thinking of betting these or ones from a 72 moter that was posted here.
Please see early comment regarding Billitt caps. Just spoke with my engine shop and they said it would be $650 do 'fit' the billit caps and line bore and check and it would be about half of that if you find buick 455 main caps. Apparently, there is a lot of work involved in fitting the Billitt caps.
