I have just bought a 68 GS stage 1 convertible with match numbers and would like to hear if anyone in here new a bit about how many of those were build in 68? I know it was a very rare dealers option but it is hard to find any other info on it. Thanks guys:TU:

I don't believe there would be any information available as to how many 1968 dealership Stage 1 pkgs were sold over the counter. You wouldn't happen to have the sales receipt from the S1 pkg purchase, would you?

BTW, congrats on the new car! :)

I suspect there is no support for the proposition that the Buick factory made such a car in the 68 model year. I think there were just a few add on kits sold as what we call "over the counter". Even those would be rare.

Jim, he doesn't claim it is factory, as he comments that he knows it was a dealer option. I don't think anyone here has the misconception that a 68 could be ordered with a factory S1 package.

I've never seen anyone post any info regarding actual dealer sales numbers of the pkg.

The history of the car and how it got to Denmark would be interesting too, if that information is known.

A few pics would help, to see how original factory-built it still looks now.

Thanks for your comments so far guys. Before I bidded on the car I did some research myself and found out some of the things that were mentioned in the other thread. What I can find and what others have mentioned the stage 1 was only availible in 68 as a dealers option and first factory produced in 69. But when the car comes to Denmark I will have it sloan documented to find out more. I have a 462 cui stage 1 sitting for it so when that is dropped in, then it could be interesting to take the 400 apart and find out whats in it:) When I have it home I will try upload some pics but Im not the big computer savy:Dou: I can only say that the car looks very fine in the pics that I have seen, and is held all original except from the top that now is a canvas instead of vinyl and some other wheels, it is a match numbers car. If anyone out there has more info then please public it. And for you who asked how I get it to Europe then it is right now sitting in a container on a boat, thats the way we buy cars over there. My other buicks are looking forward to see their new playmate. Thanks for your info.:beers2:

Sorry, but there is no Sloan documentation available for the 68-69 model years. The only documents you could use are a sales receipt from the dealer for the Stage 1 pkg purchase. And Sloan, when available, only reflects factory data, nothing at the dealer parts counter, I believe.

ok, thanks for the info. Then there is only one way, when the 462 is in the car then I will pull the 400 apart for checking whats in it. The only problem about that is that it was rebuild around 89 and if the parts where installed at that time then it wherent there from the beginning. I am the fourth owner and the third owner know the second and he should be the one who has rebuild it so I will try if it is possible to contact him for more info.

Just for info, I talked with the second owner of the car and he could confirm that when he opened the enginge in 89 then the stage 1 package was in it. He also knew the guy he bought it from several years earlier and he had also told him that when he bought it he had a stage 1 set installed in the car by the GM dealer he bought the car from. So it looks like Ive been lucky:pp . The car has not arrived yet here in Denmark but when it does I will upload pics. Have a nice weekend with fun in your toys.

Greetings - it would be of utmost benefit for you to get the original owner info from the second owner you spoke with and try and make contact. If you do make contact see if he still has any of the original paperwork /receipts for the stage1 equipment as installed by the dealer.

This will probably be the only proof that the car came from the dealer equipped that way. Everything else is just "He said...." which when trying to document a car has next to no value. Even opening up the motor and finding the parts does not disqualify the fact that they could have been added at a later date. The paperwork is the only proof.

Congratulations on the car and I wish you much success with it :beers2:
