ok guys, I know of a couple online places to get it... but can this be bought at any of the local stores? If so, what brand and part # ?

I read a thread that the Krylon Ford Green is pretty close. Anyone using that?

I think the Dupli-Color Engine Enamel "Detroit Diesel Alpine Green" is a pretty close match too.

I don't think you'll find anything local that is close. The Detroit Diesel green is quite a bit lighter.

    Jeff-

I have a opened pint or quart from CARS that is the correct color. I picked it up a couple years ago from a boardmember and was said to only have been used a little for touch up. You can have it if you want it. PM me if your interested.

Good to know Peter. When I used to work at Advance Auto Parts, I sold some to a guy who was rebuilding an engine. He said it worked out for him alright; he said it was close, so I was just going on what I was told. Good to be informed.

Better take him up on the offer Jeff- deals don't get any better than that!

I bought a pint can made by POR.15. Said Buick Turq. On the top. Got it at my local parts store. I'll check to see if they have more if you like.

I used the por15 paint on my old 65. I followed the instructions to a t. I was not impressed. Once the engine heated up, the paint started to get really soft and would peel. I won't use it again.

It worked real well for me. I spilled gas on it on the intake and it still stuck. I don't know what the difference would be. It was bare iron with no undercoat. I let it dry for a few week's tho. Sometimes setting the whole engine out in the sun. It also said to let your engine warm up for awhile but I don't know what that would do. It runs close to the same tenp. most of the time anyway. I didn't thin it, just spread it on. Looked like hell at first but it ended up flowing out just right. So I don't know.:Do No: Maybe I got lucky. Haven't since!

Glad it worked for you Ponch. Not the first time it worked for one person and not me.

If you paint an engine Detroit Diesel Alpine Green it will leak oil!

Old truck mechanics used to say you could paint a rock DD green and it would leak oil. (That's a shot at the old 2 stroke engines habit of leaking/slinging/burning oil).
