I've got a pontiac flywheel that I intend to pair with a super t-10 and mate to a 455 Buick (that I have found at my local junkyard for $179 p ). Will this combination work? Do I need to buy a Buick-specific flywheel?
Thanks for the replies, $42 at autozone seems like a deal compared to the billet TA Performance has to offer at $249 and the $229 stock replacement piece from Poston. Now, is that $42 flywheel for the big blocks (I have a 455), or do they all interchange. Kelly, does that pattern also happen to be the same one as the Pontiac? (possibly at least?) Do I also have to get the crank machined for the transmission's input? thanks for all the input.
The flywheel also helps balance the engine. It is doubtful that the Buick and Pontiac engines have the same balance characteristics. Also, the Buick flywheel is drilled for an 11" clutch, but many Pontiac clutches are only 10.5". That wouldn't prevent you from using it, but it wouldn't have the same holding power. The Buick crank should already have a provision for a pilot bearing. The large center hole in the Buick 455" flywheel is 2.485" in diameter, if this helps. Larry
Well, that pretty much makes it all clear beyond the chemical qualities of crystals, thanks. I'm not using no crapy little clutch, I'll go with the 11" + Buick Flywheel from TA. The $42 flywheel was a flexpalte, and it also turns out that no other parts place offers a big Buick flywheel "at this time", in other words, they will never offer it. Furthermore, the TA flywheel is billet, thus it will probably never give me any problems. thanks again
