I have a question, What is 1974 Buick 455 Stage 1 dip stick length? I lost the original one on the restoration process, If I remember it was one of those without tube sticks, I bought one of those with tube ones and installed on my engine and it looks original but when I put 5 quarter oil with oil filter changed after running and sitting it shown higher than full!

If any body have the information I want to know what is the length of the stick, the tube and length of high and low mark from head of the stick.

Also want to know on 1974 Stage 1 dip stick was one of those without tubes or with tube?

I usually check the oil 5-10 minutes after shutting down. From there, it is usually dead on the full mark. If I check overnight, it is above the full mark. If you have 5qts in it, it is good. You could always take a file or side cutters and make a new mark on the stick where 5qts shows after sitting overnight.

Thats cause 5 qts really is overful by most (if not all) 455 dipsticks. Back when I was changing oil in the dealership, we put a little over 4 1/2 qts in a 455, and that was right on the money - never mind the owners mannual says 5 qts.. And BTW my 73 Stage car has the dipstick tube if that helps.
