Well, it was a lean spike caused by small Idle Feed Restrictions. I opened them up today to see if i could richen things up and wallah. Still not perfect but i can accelerate without the AFRs going way lean.

I will say this, with the lean tune, i got 18mpg hwy during my roadtrip last weekend. Not worth the limitations at speed though. Oh well, the tuning shall continue.

I finally decided to change over to oil-through-pushrod rockers so i could plug the hole in the valve cover gasket that i was using for my supply line to the passenger rocker shaft. Good thing i did...popped off the valve cover and the rocker tip is as shown in the picture. Luckily, the pieces were still in the valley and no apparent damage was done. Not sure how long its been like this but its amazing how quiet the valve train is now and how smooth the idle is lol.

LOL, its a wonder the valve train was so damn noisy and the vacuum was erratic. it's smooth as butter now and so very quiet. i love it! plus, no more smoke screen from oil leaking on to the header.

Interesting fact: a holley 750 main body has different placement for the transfer slot hole on the base plate than an 850 does. LOL, i realized last night as i was taking apart my carb again that this was the case and reason why my carb NEVER had any adjustment to the idle mixture screws and always ran way lean at idle. I modified the base plate to work with the 750 main body and seems like everything should work now. We'll find out tomorrow.

    Hi Jason

I just want to say thanks about sharing all the information and experience about your carb settings with the jets and pv.
My Build has the same camshaft like yours but with more CR and without NOS. First time i failed and now i spend a lot money to fix that.
I'm was so stupid to run without an wide band oxygen sensor and fuel pressure gauge in the passenger. Ignition was way off in (to much advanced timing).
Now i will run the engine with the new sensors and tune it with their additional informations like you.

    stay tuned :)

    Robert

Yeah, the O2 sensor has been invaluable and I would recommend one to every car guy who does his own tuning.

UPDATE: The modifications to the base plate were a success. I have full control of the fuel curve now at idle and its been wonderful. I also modified the Proform main body to have a ported vacuum passage as it doesnt come with one. This is my first tank with all the mods done at once but i am happy to report that i got a combined mpg of 13 last tank (up from the typical 7 i was seeing). I think im seeing around 18-19 on the highway, its all the in town stop and go that kills me but being able to drive for about 9 days vs 5 is already saving me quite a bit of money. This is the current setup:

750 Proform Main body with annular boosters on a 850dp base plate
    Pri Jet - 66
    Pri Power Valve - 9.5
    PVCR - .062
    Sec Jet - 78
    No PV
    IAB - .070
    HSAB - .031
50cc pump primary with 31 squirter and brownish cam on spot 1
30cc pump secondary with 31 squirter and pink cam

-After the engine is warm, im seeing 13.8-14.7 @ 800-850rpms with 13" vacuum
-Light acceleration goes to 14.5-15.5 until the PV opens. It still doesn't open early enough for me and i would like to see the fuel come in a little earlier but i am not experiencing any surging, hesitation or pinging as i was with 64 jets. I may up the primary jets a size or two and see how that affects things as well.
-At cruise (2000-2500rpms) I'm anywhere between 14.7-15.3 depending on engine load.
    -WOT is 12.5-12.9
-Stomping the throttle from a stop does give me a lean pause before it roast the tires so im sure some tuning with the squirter and cam will help but going WOT from part throttle is crisp and and clean.

It's been a long road but I finally got to take the Riv to the track. It was an 1/8 mile track that race-legal sets up every other weekend at the local football stadium parking lot. Best time was a 8.73@78mph. The track prep wasn't as good as im used to which would explain the less than stellar 60ft times i was seeing. All in all i did 8 passes with no incidents. I know there's some video out there, so hopefully, ill get that up today or tomorrow.

So is that a 16 second quarter mile. ? I cant stand an 1/8 mile run. seems like a freeway on ramp. There are no tracks in sacramento or the bay area. Have to go to Sonoma, thats over an hour drive. We used to take over the industrial area in Hayward and have fun, Now i live in sac. still lookin for good safe area out here.

LOL, no it comes out to roughly a 13.5. I prefer 1/4 mile too but i hate driving an hour just to race.

Finally, got the video of my best run. This will be the last post in this thread as I've started another to document my turbo build in the Hit Tech section. Check it out for future fun.

    No tracks in Sacramento?

I used to go here when I was in high school. Its out beyond Mather afb and is in the middle of nowhere but is still open. If you end up going out there soon send me a pm cuz I might want to see what my battlecruiser can do.
