Hello Everyone. I have begun rebuilding the original 350 in my '70 skylark. Currently down to the short block, and need to begin ordering parts. This build will be more cost-efficient than i would like, as i also have a ford 306 build going on in another location.
I am keeping the Stock rods, pistons, and crank, any recommendations on rebuild kits for the bottom end?
As for the oiling system, I will be installing new oil pump. does anyone have the link to the oil system mods on these motors? I had the link awhile ago but seem to have lost it.
As for the valve train and such, the heads will be taken to a local machine shop for porting and polishing, along with new valve seats. What else in the valve train should I replace while its apart. Was also planning on new cam, timing chain, and valve springs. Any recommendations for those?
I am going to be keeping the stock intake for now and a rebuilt 750cfm quadrajet. I already have an msd 6a ignition, what is the recommended method to go with for the distributor?
I imagine i will answer alot of these questions myself as i look over previous posts, but any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

PS- what is the stock compression ratio on a non-GS 350? i blieve it is 9:1, correct? anyone ever deck the block or heads?

    alec296 i need another buick

send distributer to jim wiese at trishield for magnetic conversion
get 10 to 1 cast pistons from ta perf ,without the steel shim head gasket
you will be around 9.5 ish on comp
also did your motor have steel shim gaskets when you took apart,if not you can use them for a bump on comp
valve seats will be fine dont waste your money there as heads will be ok
spend money onmore porting or ta larger valves if you can swing it
    ta 212 or 310 cam
if you deck anything deck block as you will drop less volume that way
if you take off to much you will need to shorten pushrods/shave intake to fit
so that could cost more than its worth, hense piston suggestion
ta should have the info on oil mods , or jim burek at pae
stock intake and 750 carb will be good for mild street no problems there
tuning will really help so read up on q-jet performance
dont use the high volume pump with long gears as it can do more harm then good
go with a booster plate and stock gears in pump, drill passages in pump housing to half inch then smooth passages for flow and direction
drill out passage from sump in pan to oil pump in block to 9/16 inch
and get a new pickup tube ,i think they come 5/8

Guessing that you probly want a fast street car with ocasional 1/4 mile race heres some advice:

Since your rebuilding the original comp ratio doesn't matter since it was pistons that made the difference between high and low comp so just use high comp pistons in rebuild.

Call Ta performance and order, a 212 cam, lifters, double valve springs, retainers, nylon buttons and make sure the pushrods are ok by rolling them on a flat surface (order if needed).

regarding the ignition this is what I use (Thanks Dan!!):

"If you decide to use the hei with the msd you will need to get the msd low resistance button that replaces the gm button. THe msd will heatup the gm button and melt the cap were it goes though the cap to the coil. You will also need a msd coil to be compatble. If you use the external coil you will need an adptor kit for the msd coil that will work with the hei cap. Msd sells a kit for this hei setup. I use the msd kit with external coil. NOT CHEEP.! But I have not had any problems with the setup."

    MSD
    Cap and Rotor Kit
    For GM V8 HEI
    121-8416

    HEI Low Resistance Bushing
    121-8412

    Extreme HEI Coil Dust Cover
    With Wire Retainers
    External Mounted Coil
    121-84011

    Digital-6 Plus Ignition
    121-6520

    Blaster HVC Coil
    121-8252

If you dont want to use HEI then use a points style dist converted to msd magnetic pickup by "Daves smallbody distributers".

Sounds like the Ta 212 is the most recommended cam. How much dp the higher comp pistons run?
The car will be seeing as much track time as it will see on the street, if not more. just building a fun car to race bracket with. I will look into the magnetic conversion, I have read good things about it.

Use the 310 cam then, you'll love it! My last nitrous 350 motor had the 310 cam and it ran low 11's with a 150 shot with a 4000 pound car....
