I was chatting with someone today and he tells me that Buick 350s used different heads.. o No: This is how he started it: "Buick 350s were never id'd as small block and used different heads." So I disagreed but questioned that I could be wrong. His response: "Buicks did have different heads (Though they would bolt to a small block chev), and I had forgotten about the bore/stroke thing... It has been a LONG time since I had my hands in old Detroit Iron. Buick 350 compared to chev 350 is about like small block dodge 318 comped to Plymouth's Canada only "Big Block" 318 which had a totally different block and heads, but you could still use the crank and rods out of the big block in the small block to make a VICIOUS stroker motor... Stock bore with big block crank was 345 cid I think... All you had to do is cut like 50 thousandths out of the main journals to do it... NEWAYZ, kinda off topic, but same type of deal." So then I told him I wasn't so sure about that and we made a friendly wager and this is his response: " I tell ya what, I will buy that butterfinger blizzard for ya if you can prove that the runner lengths and dimensions were the same... " So I know that Buick heads would interchange with a Chevy but what about there heads being different or not the same? Can anyone explain this please? Thank-you Ronnie
Buick head my physically bolt to a chevy block but I don't think he meant they would work. I pretty sure I would of read it somewhere by now. I just read this forum for a couple of years. The neatest thing I ever saw in a better head. Was someone taking dual over head cam 4 cylinder heads off some import. They just about fit right. I wonder if the DOHC Buick 350 ever came to life?
