Me and a buddy both got your project cars around the same time, i got a 69 skylark custom with only 76000 miles on the 350-2, driven by little old lady, but of course it can't be prefect and has rust on the rear. My bud got a 81 firebird no rust, but its got a 305 and has been beat, now we both have your ways i fix it myself and do whats need to make it run better, cause it had a few things and my bud did some to get it ready for the road and that it(read MASSIVE exhust leak) and i did mine out with 2.5 inch so with the rust its still cooler than "the beater". so tonight he gives me a call cause hes in a racing mood, we raced before but it didn't work cause we both had "problem"(read he had). so we go out a little road nice and dry(that doesn't help me i only got a one legger) and a another friend get out and lines us up. i bring the up a little and so does he and we have a sec and we're off! wheel spin damn, off on, hes had wheel spin but not much and hes drag racing lots before, i hit it again and hes aready at my front bumper, i feel it lock to the ground and PUSH! i start reeling him in like a dead boot, i wave as i fly by, and pull out in front to his front bumper i know its over so i let off, and of couse the great fly by happens so i pull up next to him and give him a BIG smile, it the line lock(yes i'm all ready for the posi and slicks :TU: ) and smoke him out! i love the feeling from single tip with no pull from 3000 - 4500 to dual i have a ton of life up there. hope you enjoyed. your sincerly roration king.
normally picking on 305 chebbies is bad ... but if the chebbie is ASKING for it, well, then it's simple justice now ain't it? :TU:
i recently found out that thouse mid gen camaros and firebirds only had 305's, i always thought they were packing 350's. beleive me things made alot better sense to me once i found that out. Cause i was really impressed with the bonestock 350/4 buick.
I used to run circles around my chebbie buddies in 1987-88 in high school w/ my 350-2 '70 Skylark Custom w/ dual exhaust and nothing else but a tune-up.... They and their overrated 300 horse 350 monte carlo's and chevelles, never beat me--- Lemans too, you name it..... Tall peg-leg gears and all, the 'ol Buick 350 ran strong..... found its way into a guys old jeep wagoneer, wonder where it is now.........
i was talking to my dad about the 305's and at least they had 4bbl's. He said he almost ordered on but bought his 455 442 instead.
