Bucket Seats

I have a 1970 Skylark with a split-back front bench seat (no arm rest), interior color is Sandalwood. The whole interior is original and in excellent condition, with the exception of the driver's side of the front seat. I know I can buy a reproduction seat cover from several sources, and have the front bench redone. But what I really want is bucket seats. Two problems: first, it is getting hard to find good bucket seat cores. Second, Buick didn't make a bucket seat in Sandalwood trim, so the seat cover and all the other plastic seat parts would have to be custom made/colored. I'm looking for a recommendation for a custom upholstery shop that could handle the job of finding cores, rebuilding them as necessary, and finishing in the correct style/color for my interior. Oh, and one that won't charge more than one zillion dollars (US) for the complete job, shipped to my door. Has anyone been through this process (successfully) and survived, or should I just settle for a rebuilt bench? Thanks for any assistance.

Usually you can buy some cores off htis Board. The are also reproed if you want new. www.opgi.com is an example.

We have owned two 70 GS cars with sandlewood buckets from the factory. One was a convert and the other is a hardtop stage one which we still have.

Legendary interiors can supply you I believe with the interior you seek and they are first class.

Jim, thanks for the response. I was going by the options listed in a original 1970 Buick full-line factory sales brochure. For the GS it only shows the optional buckets available in White, Blue, Black or Burnished Saddle. For the Skylark Custom, it shows the same colors available for optional buckets. Is it possible other colors (like your Sandalwood buckets) were available by some sort of special order? I'm sure not saying you are wrong...I'm just trying to learn all I can from more experienced Buick owners like you. I will check out what Legendary might have to offer.

When I see the list you may be correct in that I am thinking burnished saddle as a kind of tan color and so is sandalwood. Did you ask Legendary if they can make them?

    Chuck,
Contact Legendary or PUI. They are the primary suppliers of a-body seat covers to many resellers. I had a set of Sandalwood bucket seat covers made for my '71. Delivery a little long at 12 weeks but the pattern/grain was as original. Mine too was a bench seat car as new.

    >>Hey Chuck - call up Legendary and ask for Heather Derrigo (1-800-363-8804 ext. 228) - I just ordered Sandalwood bucket and headrest covers from them and she was very helpful (even sent me a sample piece to match against my sandalwood interior). She told me my package would arrive in 2-3 weeks but we will see about that. Now I am trying to remove the old foam from my saddle bucket seats but that problem is for another thread ;-)
