I have been fortunate enough to find a decent pair of Strato buckets from a 69 GTO for my Skylark converible. The Strato's need new foam and recovering. I have new seat covers and can buy the foam on line. Do you recommend I recover them myself or let the upholstery shop do it? Who has the best foam/prices? What is a fair price for restoring these bucket seats?

It can be very expensive to let some shop rebuild your seats. I have a set of buckets that I am recovering myself with tips from George N's website - check out this article, great reading on rebuilding bucket seats:

There are two levels of quality for the foams. Buy the better of the two. Check with legendary. The foams are year and model specific. Get the year for the seat cover you will be using as they are made to fit the covers. Checl Legendaries catalog.

ACCORDING to the Legendary website, you have to do some work with the foam to make 'em look like this:

Lots of work with the cheap foam. Buy the better stuff. Otherwise it's pretty straightforward. Plan on replacing some springs as well. They don't fit very well either.

Swap the seat tracks around. Make the passenger sit on the worn saggy seat while you sit on the lesser used one.:TU:

I have always recovered my bucket seats ('67 GTO, '68 GTO, '71 GSX) by myself and have had excellent results. For the Buicks, I would use Legendary products, as they have proven to fit the best.

Also, it doesn't hurt to have a heat gun to remove the wrinkles.

    Thanks,

    Ken
