Here's a pair of very nice bucket seat headrests from a '69 car. Dark red in color (they had black vinyl paint on them and I removed it).

    >Very nice overall condition - no cracks, tears, gouges, etc. The vinyl "grain" is very nice

    >Chrome headrest posts are real nice - ONE side of one headrest has some light "frosting"/rust spots on the upper part of ONE post but the chrome is shiny, etc and the other posts are nice and shiny chrome

    >Date stamped 1 13 69 and they have in the lock notches (on the chrome posts) on the INSIDE of the posts (correct for '69). They can still be used on a '70-72 bucket.

    >Underside filler panels are there - they could use a coat of vinyl paint and there is one tear and some deformation at one of the chrome post holes on one filler panel (see pic). VERY NICE/correct repro underside filler panels are available from the repro vendors (in black or white - paint to match) if you need a show quality set.

    >There is some slight "streaking" on the front of one headrest (see third from the last pic) - the vinyl is not quite as shiny in those areas. The vinyl, however, IS NOT dried out, etc. and the grain in the streaked areas is just as good as the rest of the grain.

    >Use "as is" for a driver or clean once and spray with one or two coats of whichever color you need for a show quality look. These came off a pair of buckets from the northern US.

These are also listed for sale on another site.

Brian - I have a lighter red short armrest plastic base - '69-72 - in SUPER NICE condition but it came from a Chevelle and it's a VERY red red....I can post pics if you have interest.

Tony - Unlike the later headrests where the date code appears to be ETCHED into the chrome posts, the date codes on this pair are STAMPED INTO the chrome posts. On this pair they're at the bottom of the posts (stamped into ONE post on each headrest).

TONY - correction on my part....I looked closer at one of them and it has TWO date code stamps...one is ETCHED on one post and the other POST is STAMPED as well. Pics below.

Send me some pictures of the arm rest base. Are there any cracks or splits in those headrests?

Brian - I grabbed the dark red headrests and looked at them closely again...as mentioned before, no cracks or splits.

The armrest is a RH side. Here are some pics of the "brighter" red armrest from the Chevelle. Some past owner had the pad re-covered in a darker naugahyde vinyl that doesn't match, etc but the pad can be re-covered again as long as the naugahyde wasn't glued to the FOAM part...I'll have to look closer but it looks like they didn't spray the foam pad before gluing on the nauga although there is some slight gluing along some edges of the foam part.

The grain is super nice on the armrest base and it's never been painted. The polypropylene plastic has no "drying out" or "chalky" areas like many of these things have. Doesn't have the holes in it for the "fancier" stainless trim strip. Has three nice original large chrome attaching screws as well.
