hi all, what are some good brake mods to make to a car within a reasonable price range?? the car goes fast, now i want it to stop fast.
Hey Dan......I changed my front pads the spring to the Hawk HPS pads sold through Jegs (approx $38) & they certainly helped me with my vacume limited braking situation.
Well, wrong forum, but...replace your stock rubber flexible front brake lines with stainless steel braided ones. Made a big difference for me, at least in pedal feel. The neoprene type ones bulge, the ss ones resist that, so more pressure goes to the wheel cylinders/calipers, instead of getting wasted bulging out the sides of the flexible line, is the idea.
Hey Chris, never thought of the ss brake lines helping out like that but definitely sounds like it's worth a try. Do you have any part numbers or vendor sources for these? Thanks.
earl's is the only major vendor i can think of. (earl's is a division of holley that makes plumbing stuff) a kit with 2 front lines and apparently one rear (i wasn't aware we had any flex lines in the rear) is 60-70 dollars. check summit or jegs.
 I thought the same thing, too! The flex rear one doesn't go to any wheel cylinders; hard lines go there. The flexible one bolts to the top of the differential with a clip. I assume this is so you don't have to open up the system to replace rear control arms or whatnot, and it sure was easier to hook up my brake lines while swapping in a new rear end because of that flex line. GM had a few clever ideas that actually worked:laugh: I ordered mine from Poston, I assume that Holley supplies them with the parts. Nice easy swap for the fronts, didn't care to do the rear again.
Thanks for the input guys....found 2 suppliers in Jegs.... Earl's & Russell they are both around $70. Might have to give one of them a try. Hey back to you Dan.
COOL, THANKS FOR THE IDEAS, postons wont have my brake lines (i dont have a 68-72) but i'll see if jegs does.
Yeah definately go with the Brake lines that are mostly steel. That was a big mod for fox body mustangs. Another mod if you have the money to spend would be slotted rotor's i'm sure someone makes them I haven't used any but I know it's the newer technological advance in braking that can be used on the older cars. Another thing would be to find a matching master cylinder from a different size car. I'm not sure if there is any difference between the electra's master cylinder and the gs but there could be. Also the last mod that doesn't come cheap would be converting to 4 wheel disc. Good luck it's always fun to upgrade the breaks because you can feel the results of each mod.
