I know bigger is better when it comes to brakes.. I have 3 options (don't worry about wheel size) Wilwood/Baer/SSBC 4 wheel disc (14") upgrade- calipers/drilled, slotted rotors etc...around $2600 Upgrade just the rotors to slotted and the pads to match..around $600 Upgrade factory calipers to 3 piston calipers & do the rotor thing as above- around $1200 My question is this- I need to get back to at least my factory performance after going to a much larger set of wheels and tires- has anybody had any experience with any of the above options..I'd like some opinions before I drop a lot of coin...
What is your current setup? 14" disks:eek2: You'll definately need a big wheel to clear those babies... and possibly tubular A-arms. (those might be included in the conversion you researched) Have you checked out Scarebirdhttp://www.scarebird.com/4436.html You should be able to convert the front for 12". Scarebird requires a little more outsourcing yourself but you can save a lot of coin. I think the conversion I did on my GTO, about 10 years ago, was from Master Brakes... or master power brakes. I converted from drum to front power disk 11" there was a lot of stopping power there, for doing high perfomance street driving it was more than adequate. I could lockup the brakes so hard you'd darn near go through the dash. Regardless of how large of wheels and tires you choose, I can't imagine 12" not being enough. Unless your application will be for SCCA competions:TU:
22" w 285/50s on a Tahoe. We've decided to go with the 14" brake upgrade from SSBC...new slotted 14" rotors and new brackets for existing calipers...
I currently am running a 13" Wilwood setup on the front of my GSX. I have 17" wheels on the car with plenty of clearance. They work way better than the stock setup. Mark
