I'm needing the brake booster rebuild kit/parts for my 1961 Buick Electra. Any ideas or resources? My pedal goes to the floor if the vacuum hose is connected. I'd like power brakes back on this boat.
I just bought a replacement booster for my 66 TBird at NAPA for less than $200, inlcuding a new Master Cylinder. It looks a little different but that doesn't matter so much on my car.
It's a stock 1960 vacuum booster. I'm pretty sure they only used one version for the '61's. I'm not sure what else I can add... Thanks for the reply!
I'm trying to keep things very stock, if possible and am hoping to get parts to rebuild my original booster. I checked at NAPA (and others) without any luck. Used to be you could go to NAPA and get rebuild kits for just about anything ever built for a car... Times have changed!
Booster Dewey...Period! He was in my wedding back in 1981 so I am a little partial He is as honest as they come... Eric/ Oregon :3gears:
Turns out NAPA couldn't deliver on the booster and the local shop I usually go to wants over $700 + $200 core. I took that to mean that they DON"T want to do the work. Whatever. Anyway, I called Dewey today and he's going to be doing the work. His turnaround time is just a few days so I'll give an update in a week or two. Total cost including shipping each way: $205. Sweet.
I already got my booster from Dewey. Everything looks good so far... and he even included the check valve.
I just spoke to Dewey about a car I am converting to disc brakes. He knows his stuff about brakes. Great guy to work with :TU:
I just had my booster rebuilt and master resleaved at a local break rebuilder. Cost me about 450, but I think its leaking past the piston. I've heard the stock bores had a taper to them to prevent this. With the piston being part of the booster assembly. The rebuild should have both pieces to set piston depth I believe.
