We race Quaker City all the time. We almost always stay at the track on a regular Saturday night. It has never been a problem. I know they lock the track down at a certain time for security. We have never had an emergency that required us to look for a way out in the middle of the night. I'm sure there must be some security person in charge. To the best of my knowledge they don't have showers but that may have changed. They do allow small fires and they do have power at many pit sites. We intend on staying at the track for the Nats. I haven't heard anyone say that was not an option. It's a really nice place if you like to camp which we do. We just throw an air matress in the enclosed trailer which works fine. We can buzz home in the morning, shower, feed the dogs & cats and get back. Anyone else planning to do the same? Leanne
Hey Leanne, Went to the track Friday morning with John Schmidt, and met the QC track owner Dan Swindell,we went over many details. Camping is allowed, tents, motorhomes etc.. Small! fires are allowed, I did say SMALL! dogs' are allowed and MUST be on a leash at all times. I don't no about showers, forgot to check, but will try to get back on this one. There is water, air and fuel at the track. the Bleachers are not covered, and there is little shade, bring sunscreen, and a small tent, or umbrella(for sun of course!) Plenty of electrical hookups for most everyone, there WILL be A $5.00 electrial hookup charge for the entire weekend. and if you only need it for one day it's still $5.00 this hookup charge is track policy, and I personally will use this as it would cost at least 50 bucks to run the generator for the weekend, Plus lots less Noise! There is plenty of space for everyone coming! trust me on this, this is a big facillity. wait till you out of towners see the uphill burnout box! Later, Bruce
Hey Bruce! Glad to hear that the usual rules apply for staying at the track. Sure hope someone besides us decides to stay. I know most girls aren't big on camping (Renee says her idea of camping is opening the windows at a Holiday Inn) but it's so peaceful at night there. I hope we remember to bring our telescope. There are few lights nearby and the sky is bright with stars on a clear night. It would be great if they have added showers. It would save running back and forth. I could bring Mick & Murphy with us (our cocker babies.) Some of the latest track improvements can be found at; http://www.ihra.com/news/2004/june/25quakercity.htm
In the past six months, the track has added the following amenities: New 30' x 60' pavilion T-shirt shop Tire shop Parts shop Photography shop selling on-site photos to racers Showers Larger concession stand Landscaping improvements Extra road in the pit area offers more parking capacity Electrical hookups now available at 325 spots There's some of the new things that Quaker has added to their facilities in the last 6 months straight from their web page. Seems that they added showers I haven't seen them, but I know that there is a new building by the concession stand so maybe they got it completed. We are planning on racing at Quaker this upcoming weekend and maybe I'll take my camera to get more pictures of all the improvements that the track has made since last season. The pit area and the spectator areas are HUGE, lots of parking and lots of spots for big campers. Leanne is correct about my idea of camping. Roughing it to me is staying at a Holiday Inn and turning off the air so I'll be one of those people that travels back and forth to home at the end of the night.
